How about looking into what's actually driving the high prices on medical care and medication, for one? Getting rid of that ban on inter-state competition for insurance? That'd probably actually help a lot more than just requiring everyone to get insurance.
I'm single, paid my premiums on my own for a while... I won't be able to now... Not too happy that my premium is going up by about 100 bucks, and under the bronze plan... my premium will double and I'll get less coinsurance...
Yes, allowing people to purchase insurance across state lines is a good idea. That and tort reform (code for "making it easier to get away with hurting people") are the two things Republicans usually manage to trot out when asked for an alternative. But anyone who thinks it would have resulted in anything more than a marginal improvement in the status quo is delusional.
*plays the Leftforge card* Ehhhhhhhhw, ThinkProgress, ehhhhhhhhhhhw, dismiss the source entirely, ehhhhhhhhhw!* Aside from that, Roy Blunt is a known RINO, so link = FAIL. You might as well have quoted John "Obama's Nut Sack Tongue-Polisher" McCain.
It's easy to say "look into what's driving high prices." It's also verging on meaningless unless you propose an actual solution. You might as well respond to a question about how to lower unemployment by saying "we should look into what's causing high unemployment." No fuckin' shit, sherlock. What's your solution?
What a load of shit. You're just playing that sad, tired argument of "well since you don't know the solution, then we should go with this obviously wrong solution." This is a problem outside of my area of expertise, but that doesn't mean I can't still see when something is wrong or otherwise isn't working.
Actually, no, because I don't think it's obviously wrong. That's your assertion. In other words, you got nothin'.
Oh, and in spite of "let's look into what's causing the problem" being so completely obvious, I'll note the people who came up with and/or pushed Obamacare apparently never did that themselves before they pushed that little nugget on everyone but themselves.
My assertion based on the effects which can plainly be seen by anyone who isn't an apologist. No, I got somethin' for ya.
Well, that's as much as any Obamacare opponent has been willing to give as an alternative, so at least you're not alone.
What, the tired old "Congress exempting itself" line? Complete bullshit. But it doesn't surprise me that stupid people continue to buy it.
You have to do the first step before you can do the second. I'm not a researcher in that field with access to that information, but if I had that information I could sure offer a few ideas that wouldn't involve taxing everyone for having a pulse and fucking millions of people out of their preferred healthcare and/or pay.
Surely there are people with access to that information who have developed an alternative. Maybe you could Google it. Or do you suppose they've just decided to keep it secret?
Are members of the Executive and Legislative branches going to be signing up on the Obamacare exchanges? Yes, or no? No. But never mind, you won't cop to that. Anything that forces ordinary citizens to make the choice you think is "best for them" is okay with you, right? Never mind trivialities like individual choice and personal freedom, yes? After all, freedom could lead to people making the "wrong" choice, and we simply can't have that, can we?
Actually, It's also one of the points in the link I had in my post above. It's #5 on the list: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2013/sep/24/top-16-myths-about-health-care-law/
Funnily enough, both were included in the original ACA language. Congressional Republicans killed it.
