Apply that sentiment to both sides of the equation. Keeping in mind human nature is far from consistent or predictable.
    Clearly there is a disagreement.

Posting speculation as fact? Alright who are you and how did you hack Liet's account?

Yeah, that's the most common explanation for people not getting the college degree they wanted to.

Well, it's certainly a good explanation for getting someone in trouble over an innocent picture on the web!

That's another thing, we all agree the photo is quite tame, a big nothing, hard to believe that's the sole reason for the conflict.

Well, if you want to make someone you loathe suffer and they are going for a teaching degree just make sure you snap some pics at a party and post them on the internet with their name plastered on it.

Which is really awesome, because we have such an overabundant amount of teachers in this country that we need to get rid of more willing candidates. :jayzus:

Too bad teaching is a pain in the ass and you have to deal with obnoxious kids all day.

Which doesn't exactly differentiate teaching from any old office job, except that it's less frustrating because kids are supposed to be kids while coworkers are that way just out of spite.

Dunno, I'd rather deal with obnoxious adults than obnoxious kids any day.
First off when you are teaching you are around the kids the entire time... most office jobs aren't like that. Secondly if your co-workers get too outrageous they can get fired... its really rare to see kids removed from schools. Add in some kids' parents, who seem to think that their little rugrat can do no wrong... sounds a lot crappier to me than the average office job.

    New theory:

Pictures of teachers looking stupid that may or may not be due to alcohol would actually DISCOURAGE students from underage drinking, as anything that teachers do makes that activity automatically uncool

THEREFORE all teachers should get drunk and have silly pictures posted more. FOR THE GOOD OF THE CHILDREN!!

Somebody at that university had an axe to grind with her personally and they used that picture as an excuse to deny her teaching credentials. There's something else to this story. Mark my words. I don't know if she had an affair with someone in administration who's getting even with her or what, but something isn't being told. That she would be denied a teaching certificate over such a silly, dorky, completely innocuous picture defies belief. No teen is going to be "offended" by that picture. If it wasn't called "drunken" pirate, no one would assume a thing about it. I expected the bottom half of her boob to be hanging out or something before I clicked.

Seriously. It doesn't make sense. Why not take the picture down? The whole business is absurd. :jayzus:

There's a lot of truth in that statement. A few times when a particularly annoying catch phrase has become popular, we would start saying it. The students would then have to come up with a new one. :)

I occasionally get irritated with students, parents, and/or administrators. But I'm happy with my job. :)

Yes God forbid students should ever find pictures of teachers in their off hours. This is one area I am in staunch disagreement with the educational profession, being in that profession myself. When I drive off the school parking lot, what I do should be my damned business. What alot of the idealists who set this moral mandate for us don't seem to realize is that the kids' weekends are usually far crazier than anything most of us normally do...yet god forbid, they are ever exposed to our human side.

The teachers I know are so afraid of this senario they won't be photographed with alcohol at all, because it could end up on somebody else's myspace page. I think it's pretty absurd to withhold a degree based on a picture that may or may not have alcohol. In fact I think it's ridiculous to withhold a degree or fire somebody from a job because of a picture that does contain alcohol.

I still can't believe that this woman isn't allowed to have a silly picture of herself on her own personal myspace page. Because she's a teacher, she can't be shown drinking out of a cup in a silly hat at a costume party? Because she's a teacher she has to appear in professional dress in every photo ever taken of her? She wasn't even a teacher when the photos were taken. Do schools own teachers?

    Bottom line:

    Is alcohol illegal? No?

Was she underaged drinking it? No?

Is there a morals clause to earning a teaching degree agreed to when the courseload began? No?

It's none of their fucking business. Period. End of story. Full stop.

It's the people letting things get out of control like this. You couldn't pay me enough to teach in public schools. Teachers put up with so much shit from their kids, those kids parents, and then on top of it all if they ever cut loose and have fun and God forbid a photo of it slip out they can be fired. And they do all that for what is in my opinion a pretty low salary.

Tell me about it, Tex. I earned a teaching degree and I'm not a teacher today. I did my student teaching, went to all the trouble, then it suddenly struck me that I'd never be able to fit into a public school setting without getting myself into trouble for one thing or another from all the bull shit. I said "fuck this" and went to work as a sales rep trainee for a hotel chain. My husband was so very pleased after all the sacrifice, but he came to understand why I made the decision and ended up agreeing with it. Teaching in Oklahoma is a joke.

Uncle Albert would consider time off to get chemotherapy that wasn't offered to healthy employees special treatment. I wouldn't use his opinion on the matter as a gauge.

When I did student teaching, the one parent who impressed me was the mother of a 13 year old girl who was a high school dropout herself and had to work double shifts as a waitress to make ends meet. Her words to me were, "now that I've met you, I like your attitude. If Michelle gives you any shit, let me know." Pity they weren't all like that.

And for some strange reason, "Don't do that, that's childish!" works much better on 8-year-olds than on adults.

When one of my friends from college was student teaching in Lubbock, one of the parents flat out told her daughter right in front of my friend, "you don't have to listen to that white girl."

Parents like that make me sick.

Please tell me you're fucking kidding. That's pathetic. :jayzus: Be sure to keep that victim mentality in place, that way you can blame whitey when your life doesn't turn out exactly the way you wanted. Not my fault I'm on welfare. One of my sisters quit the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization in frustration many years ago, after having mentored two little black girls whose mother had been on welfare her entire adult life. She'd helped them do much better in school, have a better attitude, and both were on their way to college (albeit junior college, with a hope of bettering their grades to get to a four year institution). One of them was going to do track and field at the junior college. My sister had helped her get interested in sports. They both got pregnant their senior and junior years and ended up not going. My sister got furious with them when they said, "But you don't know what it's like being black" as a response to her wanting to know why. My sister said she didn't give a damn, that unless they were raped it was entirely their fault. They'd chosen to trust the boys, both of whom were worthless.

I believe both girls are on welfare today, with their mother reinforcing their attitudes. She certainly wasn't going to get off her butt and work or watch their babies part time so they might still have a shot at college. The mother had a third child while the girls were in high school. If their mother had kicked them in the teeth instead, there was nothing they couldn't have accomplished at school. They both scored very highly on their ACT tests, but momma was constantly telling them they could get what they needed from government aid. They both ended up spouting off with the same attitude as their mother, and their babies probably will, too. Of course they kept them. :( You teach your child to have a victim mentality, that's exactly the level to which he or she will rise, and no higher. That's true no matter what color you are.

maybe she should have posed with an 13 year old student...no one would have paid attention to that.
