A simple enough question. Would you allow Elwood, or any other current member of the administration, to search through your PM's? And remember, they can search not only your current PM's, but also the ones you've already deleted.

Of course, we all know that our PM's could be retrieved, and read, at any time, without our permission, and there's no way the average Wordforger would ever know about it. If this whole gulgate/Storm/rosencrosisrottencrotch affair teaches us anything, it should be to abandon the PM function and take all communication to outside email.

    Give it a rest, Fleshy.

And embrace your new avatar already. There's no one who doesn't consider you a full blown troll, so you should, at this point, just go with it and have fun. I'll even heap some rep on you if you keep it as your avatar for at least 24 hours of active posting.

This because I have, but in future no because of other points that were brought up.

I would probably only grant permission if it were something like "We've been subpeonaed for PMs" or it pertained to an actual criminal/civil case somehow.

For something like this recent drama, almost certainly not.

Id be happy to have anything i have said in pm out in the open as i have nothing to hide. But my pm's might have things by other people that they might want to remain private, so overall, no

I'd give permission to any admin except that low-down no-good Order2Chaos... he'd do something bad with my PM's I'm sure of it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they say they couldn't do anything about the whole Jenna/Ted thing because the PM's were deleted, and they had no way of retriving them?

    Indeed.

It's strange, and maybe because I haven't figured out completely how it works yet. But it seems like some get deleted and some don't, but I don't know what the criteria is.

I do believe Tamar said that, and I do believe she has nada to do with the PM process.

I suppose I could test more and figure out how it works, but I don't think people would be happy with that, so I won't.

Wouldn't you need Elwood's and O2C's permission to do that? :flow:

No not really. I could just setup an empty vBulletin installation and private message myself all day long until I figured out how it worked.

Jenna accused Ted of sending her naughty/creepy PM's, but since the staff said they were deleted and had no way to retrive deleted PM's, no action could be taken.

Funny how the way two people grow up makes all the difference in the world how they perceive something.

When I see him saying he doesn't know why it happened it's the same as saying he has no idea (why it happened).

I wonder if it has something to do with the number of PM's in a given person's box in relation to their max... perhaps they get overwritten if the person deletes them to free up space and they receive more messages.

I thought Elwood said a couple of days ago that even if the PM's are deleted it is still in the database?

^If you'd read the rest of the thread you'd see that it's not consistently the case.
