....you know the third one Chris Pine and the rest agreed to do.

I assume that it would be three years after the one next year (2012).

Wouldn't it be interesting in that movie if the Abramprise of the first two movies was "upgraded" to look a lot like the Enterprise from the original series movies?

You know, The Motion Picture through Undiscovered Country.

After all, there seems pretty much universal agreement among Star Trek fans that the original movie Enterprise was the best looking ship.

And it wouldn't be that big of an upgrade from the Abramsprise.

By that time the ship will be six years old so an upgrade would make a lot of sense.

    Thoughts?

I wish they'd do that for the next movie.

I rewatched it again the other night and, while I'll admit that from certain angles (very few, I might add) it looks, "okay", I still think the ship is butt ugly.

No, because then a new breed of whiners will complain that the ship doesn't look consistant between the two films...

Last scene of the third movie, Spock hops through The Gaurdian, hops right back out, JJPrise morphs into TOSprise, Spock beams up, cut to TOSprise getting its TMP refit.

The end, skip to whatever the next show is.

You still wouldn't accept it because it'd be in the JJverse.

Plus, a ship alone does not make a good movie.

the EntJJ would most definitely NOT benefit from squared off nacelles

    A good ship doesn't hurt.

And yeah, I could accept a good movie in the Abramsverse.

Let me know when we see one.

Spock jumps out of the Guardian, finds the Serenity crew waiting for him.

Mal: "Glad you made it. Now, have you figured out how we're going to bypass the security computers in that Alliance bank?"

    Spock raises an eyebrow.

You know, in some ST novel I read (The Return? One of the Shatner/Reeves-Stevenseseses books?), a Defiant class ship was temporarily renamed Enterprise for one mission, in honor of the captains aboard.

Just throwing that out there. :diacanu:

I didn't care for that novel either.

Lots of indications that things were going to really take off then not much happening.

What would be cool would be for the new film to break the fourth wall and troll Dayton right there in the damn theater.

"Dayton!!! Look we just changed Spock's hair style!"

Jesus Christ, Dayton! Give it a fucking rest! You're never going to get the Star Trek you want. Just accept it and get on with your life, you'll be much happier that way.

For the the classic Enterprise design will always be the refit from TMP. There's something about that design that's so beautiful to me. No other star ship design from any other scifi film has ever come close.

[IMG]For the sake of this, I'm using the 366m interpretation of the 1701JJ. That makes for something about 100m (390') high

    the bad.-
Okay, the profiles don't show the biggest flaw in the redesign... The nacelle struts. The angle is at least 20 degrees less which hurts a lot from just about any angle but the side.

-Even there, the square angle doesn't flow as well as the RF's swept wing which in turn, conforms to the neck line.
    solution-duh. spread those legs, Bitch!

The saucer slope is actually more gradual than the ReFit! Fewer elevations too. It winds up kinda boxy.
solution-Good thing SF tech is modular. just swap it with the classic, but at size.

    the not bad and 'coulda-shoulda'-

the nacelles- the struts are fooked, but the engines give it a muscular feel. If the RF were a track star, the EntJJ is a linebacker.

Hanger bay- Looks to be the same height when shown at scale. Complaint voided.

Engineering hull-Y'know, I kinda prefer this one. Maybe its the retention of the deflector as a dish? it's also longer, but nigh impossible to notice that fact at an angle.

The neck-hmm...it's inverted. I had to look at this a few seconds to notice. But yeah, RF is shorter on the bottom vs. on top. Strangely, both designs could benefit from a swap here. EntJJ is holding it's head back like it just walked into a spiderweb, RF is gawking like cousin Cletus at the Vickie's Secret store.
The fix to Ent JJ would at least require moving it forward along the eng hull about halfway. They could keep the concave leading edge and meld it nicely.

    Refitting the 1701JJ-

Besides the pylons, everything else could be fixed using the existing components. Move the neck and saucer forward and spread the nacelles apart.

I don't like the "cowls" or whatever they're called on the nacelles.

It reminds me of fins on a car from the 60s. :yuck:

A lot about the ship bothers me, including the warp and weapons fire VFX.

But I'll get over it if they give me an engaging story with some depth, broken up by a lot of gratuitous space combat.

That's the problem - the last trek movie that had an engaging story was First Contact - and even that was ... not spectacular.

I do think the special effects and humor in made up for lack of storyline in the jj abrams movie tho.

True. I really think they need a whole new storyline and new characters - then, make a series out of that, rather than making a movie from a tv series.

With my mad paint skillz, I've attempted to illustrate.
Top pic is the original models and my hybrid comparison, lower one is the spread vs. the current. Notice that the struts' curve doesn't need to go.

    Oh, for fuck's sake everyone.

There really isn't that much difference between the Enterprises.

They're all basically minor variations on a theme: big-ass saucer stuck on a tube with a couple of faggy noodles sticking out.

Here, I drew my version of the Fuckerprise:

Yeah, for goodness sake stop spergin' over the design. Just because you're head over tits for TOS doesn't make the design of that Enterprise any "better," even that design can be nitpicked to death for its flaws. Taste in Trek ships is entirely subjective and it doesn't make or break a movie/TV series.

The devil is in the details.

If all you need is a saucer, stuck on tube and a "couple of faggy noodles"............then why doesn't the Next Generation Enterprise get the same love the other versions do.

    It's like saying

"All women are basically just as sexy because they each have two breasts, an ass, and a vagina....."
