Surely the latter example simply shows the different ways to generate an emotional reaction? I took Dayton's question to be an enquiry as to whether such things occurred entirely separately.

Yup, like when we see a gturner post and know it has lies in it before reading it.

Or like when I see an El Chup post and know it's going to be hate filled and bitter before I read it.

Well, the x-factor there, is you're a good guy.

Good people will be good, dicks will be dicks, and the latter will twist themselves to justify it under their religion of choice.

So...I still don't see the point.

I'm a fan of Nietzsche's analysis of Christianity. It's a philosophy for the poor, downtrodden, socially rejected, and butthurt to feel morally superior. It began with such people, made their plight out to be virtuous, and gave them hope of better fortune in the "next life."

This^. It was also a way for the ruling classes to keep them in line and, if they got too numerous and boisterous, ship them off on the Crusades.

I thought a bunch of the crusaders were actually knights and noblemen.

About the brain - how your brain is functioning and your brain's response to hormones and medication and malfunctions and habits affects your behavior! Let's think of some sins:
    1) murder - or other violent aggression resulting in taking a life
    2) adultery
    3) coveting your neighbor's wife
So twin twins are born into a "good Christian home." One boy loses his testicles in an accident. One boy is normal. Which boy (as adult men eventually) will have an easier time avoiding these things? One guy has zero testosterone, the other has an abundance of it, he's a powerful athletic good looking guy with a strong sex drive and of course the aggression & fool hearted bravery that testosterone provides. Despite all the family's prayers and the testosterone enriched guy's diligent attempts to "be a good christian" it's almost a mathematical certainty that guy will commit at least a couple of these things, hopefully not the first one! But studies have shown many violent aggressive murderous inmates have very high testosterone levels. So is testosterone boy's faith weaker? Zero testosterone guy sits at home and reads his bible just like he should. Testosterone guy is "tempted by Satan" :dayton: 24/7. Seriously - how could anyone think that this scenario is anything but science and nature doing exactly what they are supposed to do? How can religion/spiritual concerns factor into this? Sorry, many things we do are part of our evolutionary history. They must be, because half the heroes of the Old Testament killed and fucked their way into history! Then when they got old they chilled out and changed their ways. NO SHIT! That can be explained through basic science too.
And maybe Hitler became Hitler because his brain was fucked up! That's a huge factor in affecting our behavior. But he wasn't a Lone Ranger - he had plenty of supporters. Again, human nature.

It's probably a measure of emotional response to stimuli off a religious nature. It means a person who beleives in the beauty of religion can feel beauty when experiencing religion, much as you or I can feel beauty when experiencing art.

    In other words, :dayton:

People making their living strictly from religion (they don't have a day job) send up a red flag to me. Laypeople who are deeply involved in religion must do it for honest reasons since there's no financial motive. But if your "love offerings" make you rich and powerful your credibility and motivations are suspect to say the least, with me anyway.

My neighbor's wife used to be hot... but she got older and dumpy. When they first moved in, they didn't have blinds in their bedroom, and she would change, her changing coincided with the time I would take my dogs out in the morning.

Now the people down the street, their daughter is around 19-20 years old now. She sunbathes in the driveway, I found a new time to take my dog ( I saw dog, because the other two died almost two years ago) for a walk.

What kind of dogs did you have (and still have)? And isn't 19 or 20 years old kind of young for you (IIRC you are in your mid 30s)

He does! Why do you think he sees it as reasonable to demand that I alter other people's posts to conform with his view on what the posts should say?

I requested that people be NOT ALLOWED to alter a persons posts when they quote them.
