Although I don't think anything this year can top Inglourious Basterds, this may give it a run for its money.
Lemme check what it's about. [action=Lethesoda]opens another window.[/action] Oh, a zombie movie... Yeah. Yeah I'll rent that.
I'll be there. The previews look great. Just please for fucks sake let there be some sort of conclusion to the story. Sorry I just saw Cloverfield for the first time and am feeling really jaded right now.
Saw it tonight. Long story short: if the previews interested you, you'll enjoy it. No real plot per se, just four people (Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin) driving out to California in the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse. Eisenberg is funny as a neurotic nerd who has a set of survival laws (that pop-up humorously on screen frequently); he falls for bad girl Stone, who's mainly trying to take care of her little sister (Breslin). Harrelson is great as 'Tallahassee', the bad-ass of the group. Lots of gore, though nothing too disturbing. And there's a terrific cameo appearance 2/3rds of the way through. There are a few holes in the logic--why is electricity on in L.A. weeks after the zombies have taken over?--but you just sorta go with it. Funny and the romantic angle works out, too. There's a few good scares, some decent suspense, and a lot of zombie killin'. It just lacks the certain extra something to put it on the great level. 6.5/10.
I saw it tonight too. Yes. It should be a shoe in for the Oscar for Best Documentary. Edit: All kidding an joking aside, it was worth every penny of the ticket price. It's not a straight up comedy, but I've never laughed that much in a theater and I caught myself actually caring about the characters. The only time I was taken out of the movie was the one time an asshole in the back of the theater threw a laser pointer up on the screen. But, ushers were all over the place, I guess to keep people from taping it and I guess they busted him because the ushers escorted someone past me.
Saw it today, with my son. Not quite as good as I was hoping but it was freakin' awesome nonetheless. The cameo and how it ended was a fuckin' howl. Afterwards I split a two-pack of twinkies with my kid and we celebrated Rule #35.
This is definitely up there with Shawn of the Dead as far as zombie movies go. It works especially well that there's only 8 or 9 named cast members. There's a scene at the end of the credits, but it's just an outtake.
I Interesting tidbit about the zombies is that they don't appear to be real zombies. They run fast and get mowed down by random bullets despite the rule about double tapping. Otherwise they never would have made it out of pacific playland.
Aye. They appear to be more 28 Days Later than Dawn of the Dead. I think they even mentioned that it was a virus that was doing it.
Yeah, the zombies in Zombieland aren't the undead. They're afflicted with something like mad cow disease that has caused their brains to swell which, coupled with a raging fever, makes them really pissed off.
I laughed my ass off the whole way through, and especially during the cameo about 2/3rds the way through. That was fucking great! J.
