I'm also hearing rumors that Mack Brown may announce his retirement after the Baylor game this weekend.
Texas A&M Fires Mike Sherman after 6-6 campaign Thursday December 01, 2011 - 8:35 PM CBSSports.com wire reports Mike Sherman has been fired as Texas A&M's coach after the Aggies finished the regular season a disappointing 6-6. Athletic Director Bill Byrne announced the move in a statement Thursday night. --- How about Kevin Sumlin for their new coach?
I read a report tonight that Sumlin has been offered the job at Arizona State, though A&M seems more natural given Texas recruiting.
I've heard a lot of rumors about Sumlin being the guy. He's coached here before and did very well with offensive play calling duties after the OC at the time was demoted. Our offense went from not being able to score to setting school records. He's been popular with Aggies ever since. However, I have serious concerns about his ability to coach and recruit in the SEC. This would have been a good Big 12 hire, but I hope we're looking elsewhere.
Now that you're out of the conference I'll actually be okay with the Aggies getting a coach who isn't an old white guy.* *But it still won't surprise me if you hire a silverhair born before 1950.
In the Future Aggie Coaching Spectacular, Southern Miss is putting on a show, up 42-21 over Houston going into the fourth.
Not that I follow a lot of Houston football, but how much has Sumlin's success been based on riding the shoulders of Keenum, who he didn't even recruit?
About 50%. The other 50% was playing only 4 teams with a winning record this year. The 4th team just beat him by 3 td's. Horrible hire if it goes down.
Okay. LSU has done their part. Now the Pokes need to bring it in a HUGE way to move past that other school.
OSU doesn't deserve it. Fucking Beavers had a shitty season and couldn't pose a threat to Oregon --- Oh. That OSU.
You know the moment when Admiral Ackbar does the slump, cause he knows the day is won? Yeah, that was me, middle of the third quarter.
Just remember when Alabama gets the rematch tomorrow night, Oklahoma State will have beaten... #10 Oklahoma #11 Kansas State #17 Baylor #22 Texas (road) #25 Missouri (road) #6 Texas A&M (road) Alabama will have beaten... #8 Arkansas #21 Penn State We need a playoff.
Dude. Come on. Texas and Texas A&M are not good teams this year. Texas has one of the worst offenses in college football and A&M . . . well A&M lost to Texas. I think it would be great if OSU got to take their shot at LSU, but Alabama is the only team in the country that actually has a chance to win (imho).
Yeah and that's a fair argument. Another argument would be that the two best teams should play, even if they played once already. This isn't clear cut. OSU had their chance to go undefeated and couldn't get it done. Regardless of who get's to go, one fan base is going to be justifiably upset.
I be fine with going to play Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl, it would arguably be better for us than to get a curb stomping by LSU in New Orleans. It's just ridiculous that we're all reduced to this crap. I probably wasn't so bothered by it until I heard the opening of Gameday this morning. Alabama missed four fucking field goals, at home, in a game decided by three points in over time. How is a rematch fair to LSU, every game counts except the one where they play one of the best teams in the country, on the road and win?
Reading anyone else after watching ESPN tonight is like living in two different universes. No wonder Pat Forde quit the 'Worldwide Leader' Stewart Mandel on SI
Breaking News: Sports Illustrated.com (cnnsi.com) reporting that BCS Championship Bowl is LSU vs 'Bama. (Yawn) It figures.
Yeah, it's bullshit. Just like it was bullshit when Auburn went undefeated in '04 and didn't get to go (OU got to show up at at the game instead, although 'show up' is stretching it a bit). We need a playoff. HOWEVER.... I do have to wonder... what's the longest streak one conference has held down the title?
This year doesn't count. You are basically just having 2 SEC championships. Without playing another conference there is no way to settle it so the streak of the SEC proving it is the best will remain at 5. I think LSU is better than OSU and Stanford but without a game to prove all we'll really know is that they are better than Alabama (probably). So ya, we need a playoff.
