LSU also beat the PAC 12 champion and the Big East Champion this year. Their schedule was ridiculously hard.

Yes but playing the NC within the conference against an opponent they already beat doesn't add to the streak of winning the NC against the other conferences. I'm sure they're the best, but they aren't proving it because they're not being allowed to.

I was taking it easy Saturday, watching football, trying to remain call before Bedlam, which I listened to in the seats at my daughter's Xmas dance recital. Anyways, Georgia was up 10-0 and driving, the receiver gets behind the defense, wide open and the ball hits his hands and he looks like he's wearing oven mitts. Catch the ball and it's Georgia up 17.

I scream, "Can anyone in the SEC catch the fucking football!!!"

In disgust, I quickly turn the channel to the Baylor/Texas game. Within seconds a Longhorn receiver catches the ball, turns on the jets, touchdown. But alas we won't know how a dominant offense would match up against the greatest defense, in the greatest conference, on the greatest television network of all time now will we?

Anyways, for something entertaining, read this on the return of the Pirate.

They are just playing by the rules of the game. We can't be penalized for that. Especially considering the SEC is the only conference to consistantly push for a playoff.

When do you go 4-4 in conference play and still end up in the Top 25?

When that conference is the SEC. :diacanu:

Texas is a pretty bad example. They are a horrible offense. They wouldn't score against LSU or Bama for that matter. OSU might prove interesting, but LSU did smash Oregon who ranks right behind OSU in scoring offense at #3 in the nation.

Yeah, Texas ain't great, which was kinda the point. Even they could complete a freakin pass, Georgia couldn't. Ya know, Georgia, the SEC East champion. The same Georgia that got beat by Boise State. But hey that was early in the season, sorta like the LSU/Oregon game.

We all love college football, but it's become the equivalent of playing the NCAA basketball tournament up until the weekend of the Final Four then telling everyone to go home. I do hear today that the Big XII has come around to the plus one game, cementing OSU's martyr status. :bang:

Talk about a post I wouldn't have predicted ever reading 2 or 3 "The 20XX College Football Thread's" ago…

Sorry, that's a tough one pal. But realistically speaking LSU would have torched you so you're getting off better this way as long as you beat Stanford and they beat Bama. At least then we can always point back and raise some doubt.

    The Pirate to Washington State.

    Fedora to Chapel Hill.

Weis to Kansas, they must have some XXXL gear they need to get rid of.

Arizona State is an indian giver to June Jones, awkward....

    UCLA is still open.

Talk to us Ash, Sumlin, Petersen, Richt? Why doesn't Aggy go after Briles? Is A&M is contractually obligated to take Houston Nutt for a three year stretch?

It's hard to say. Rumors have been flying around the premium boards. I have to think they're making a run at a big name (Richt, Peterson) and using Sumlin as a back up plan. If Sumlin was the #1 guy, it would have been announced today at the latest. I still think it will be him in the end. If that is the case, I will be a little irritated that they NC snatch up Fedora for peanuts. Oh, and Briles' name hasn't been mentioned at all.

You mean on the perpetual hot seat, underappreciated by Georgia, Mark Richt, yeah that one.

The Aggies are going SEC, passing around coaches like Southerners pass around their cousins is SOP and they just wanna fit in. :bergman:

Kevin Sumlin accepts Texas A&M coaching job.

Kevin Sumlin has accepted an offer to become the next head coach at Texas A&M,
a source confirmed Saturday to CBS Sports.
The 47-year-old Sumlin, a former Aggies offensive coordinator a decade ago,
led Houston to a 12-1 record this season.
He replaces Mike Sherman, who was fired after coaching the Aggies,
ranked preseason No. 8 in the AP poll, to a 6-6 record this year.
Sherman was 25-25 in four seasons at A&M and just 15-18 in Big 12 play.

Sumlin, 35-17 in his four seasons at Houston, takes over at A&M
as the Aggies are making the jump into a much deeper conference in the SEC.
It is a A&M proud program with top facilities and great resources,
but has only finished ranked one time in the past dozen years.

Having worked under Bob Stoops, R.C. Slocum, and Joe Tiller,
Sumlin has long been pegged as "a rising star" in the business.
Staffers who have worked with him gush about what a great motivator he is,
saying that he is "a player's coach" yet a real discipline guy at the same time.
The Birmingham, Ala. native is also regarded as a great closer with recruits and their parents,
    according to colleagues.

I'd say something about Houston being a High School team and it's Coach trying to thrive in the SEC, but then I think about a certain former Iowa State Head Coach and realize that I need to close my pie hole before I make an ass out of myself. :marathon:

Meh. I took a step back this year.

    1) The Penn State debacle has pretty much tainted the whole season for me.
    2) A very old friend of mine who lives out of state came back to visit and made a comment that put it into perspective. The attitudes and the way people wear, fly, and show paraphernalia around here, you would think there was a real shooting war going on.

At least locally, my perception is that the rivalry has gone to far. The tension is like it was in 1907 when they stopped playing for 40 years. On more than a few occasions, I've witnessed people be criminally harassed and even have their business refused at local establishments because they were wearing an Orange and Blue shirt. One of my neighbors, a local business owner and otherwise decent guy, put on a huge and very expensive block party last night. But, he made the point, to very plainly and hatefully tell any and all Auburn fans that they were not welcome.

Last year, my friend that owns a sign/trophy/award/printing/etc. business was making a mint selling shirts that said "Roll Ducks Roll." This year, I saw "Geaux Tigers" everywhere with the au in geaux being the Auburn logo.

Fanatics on both sides, whom never even attended the schools, have sucked the fun out of it.
