Wordforge largely exists because TrekBBS wouldn't ban Enterpriser. Now Wordforge is in crisis because we banned Enterpriser v2.0. I'm having a good laugh about that.
Yes, it's incredible bullshit. We've ruined your life! http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/trekkies/n9511
really? I thought the great migration was based on the kristallnacht of bannings and attempts to ban some of the higher profile members that posted mainly in TNZ? Jesus Tap Dancing Christ, et al.
People left TNZ due to bannings aimed at the same same behavior modification eliteforge has been engaged in for the past week. That's an interesting thought.
And a good portion of Wordforgers are here because of bans from TrekBBS, including a purge by one of the prior admins. And now we have Wordforge admins pulling the same kind of shit. That's real hilarious.
What bullshit. That's not what caused the Great Exodus and the formation of Wordforge. It was heavy-handed power-tripping mods, acting at the behest of an administration that had decided they wanted to run off a group of people they felt they could no longer intimidate and control. Every time I think they can't sink lower, JAG-ER manages to plumb new depths of stupid.
WRONG. Your revisionist history is insulting. I was one of the original members. I got the invite to come over and I wasn't even someone who got any shit from the mods or ever got banned (in fact the El Chupacabra account still exists today). The exodus happened because people didn't like the way the mods were behaving, no more, no less. I simply followed at the time because I liked the members who moved. It was never about Enterpriser. Wordforge started in July 2003. A quick search shows that Enterpriser wasn't banned for another two years. So let's stop with the bullshit, okay?
Except that it's not. It's really rather sad. It's sympmatic of power trip modes who think they know better than the membership and are doing the peons a favour. They're like restaurant owners who give you bad food and then tell you you should be grateful to get any at all.
He was a guy who trolled the shit out of TrekBBS without ever breaking a rule. The response was to build multiple new rules aimed at containing him, which he would just slip around, but which increasingly ensnared everybody else. It was that environment, in which the rest of us kept getting warnings due to rules only intended to stop Enterpriser, that Wordforge was born. People can claim revisionism all they want, but what ruined TrekBBS for people who came here was the increasingly complex Web of rules. The board administrator at the time (Lisa) should have just banned him. T'Bonz apparently chose that path with gturner.
Notice how his pride totally stops him from holding up his hands and simply saying "I was wrong", when shown he's wrong. In one thread he's gone from "we left because of Enterpriser" to "complex set of rules". Yet he still looks down his nose at us and tells us we are merely making a "claim", rather than just admitting he got it wrong (again). No doubt I'll receive another veiled threat when he gets angry again.
Yeah. A lot of it was also due to the crybaby tactics of posters who constantly complained in the Moderator Actions room that those in TNZ were mean to them. Enterpriser wasn't the main factor in what happened in TNZ.
Actually with him, he got tripped up on his tenth warning g making cracks about 9/11 outside of TNZ. At warning #10, the system auto bans, IIRC . Maybe @BizarroEnt can confirm this.
With all respect: You shouldn't "be having a good laugh" when Wordforge is in uproar and many people are pissed off, @gul . This is rather disrespectful. Just laughing away all the drama which happened during the last days doesn't give you credibility as an admin. Au contraire. It seems very arrogant.
I'm inclined to agree. I didn't necessarily agree with sending gturner off to an exile forum, but was willing to accept the staff's decision, especially because it was temporary. Prior WF administrations have made far more decisions which I disagreed much more strongly. But I accepted all of those eventually, and the board continued as usual. The staff should have largely disregarded the typical drama shitstorm over the last few days, rather than making responses that made things worse. Or at least taken a much more reserved response to some of these concerns. IMO, the staff played right into the drama trolls' trap. This all spiraled out of control, when initially it was just a minor coding/settings error which blocked gturner from the Violet Room too. I think it's still possible to move on from this, but it will take much more in terms of thinking and talking among the staff, rather than these seemingly off the cuff actions and statements. I realize that in the past I have stirred the drama pot, but I say this in all seriousness: threads like this won't help.
