From a purely map based set up that looks the case, but Ukraine has also removed Russian control from the Black Sea, sent their Black Sea navy scurrying for safety and looks to have undermined the blockade.

We also know they've damaged their logistics to the point Russia cannot use artillery as it once did.

And we know that they've burned through a lot of their trained ground troopd.

We don't how corrosive all that has been to the Russians though, or what's going on behind the scenes, could be Russian control is pretty secure, could be it isn't.

Winter should be interesting, we've seen signs that the Ukrainians are prepared to return the favour should Russia target infrastructure this year.

Case in point, Russia has used the Israel coverage to launch an offensive.

    Which failed. Badly.

And Putin being the master strategist he is had his media post photos of the debris. One of which clearly shows it was manufactured in October 1996.

A technically expired quarter of a century old missile just bypassed multiple layers of the best ADA Russia has and took out 9 choppers.

Turkey has to be so fucking pissed they gave up F-35s for those S-400s.

Avdiivka is making Vuledar look like spraining an ankle.

More Russian losses in the last week than the Ukrainians lost since the start of the summer counter-offensive.

And they just keep throwing more.

Notice the strappy-boots bug the fuck out leaving the section of infantry to just sit and wait to die. :(

Obviously not a fan of the Ruskies but damn. I was a Dismount myself. Poor bastards.

Yeah, Russia's really trying to prove "quantity has a quality all of its own", just not very successfully.

There is a clear lack of concern for their own troops, and, if as expected, there'll be a general mobilisation after the "election", that might eventually sink into enough skulls to get through the vodka haze.

Hamas refuses requests to investigate munitions that struck Al-Ahli Hospital:

On Sunday, Hamas turned down requests by The Times to view any available evidence of the munition it said had struck the hospital, claiming that it had disintegrated beyond recognition.

“The missile has dissolved like salt in the water,” said Ghazi Hamad, a senior Hamas official, in a phone interview. “It’s vaporized. Nothing is left.”

Salama Maroof, the head of the Hamas-run government media office, said in a text message: “Who says we’re obligated to present the remnants of every rocket that kills our people? In general, you can come and research and confirm for yourself from the evidence we possess.”

    https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/22/world/middleeast/israel-gaza-hospital-evidence.html

Note this is in contrast to the munitions specialist contacted by CNN, who said that there are always debris from the munitions in every site he's ever investigated over 30 years, including 3 different investigations in Gaza.

Why is this happening again Rick? Was it because Hamas give hugs to the kids in the bomb shelters during their rocket attacks, or because they slit their throats? Were the young adults at the Peace Festival spared, or were 260 of them murdered in cold blood, others raped, killed, and their bodies paraded around to the cheers of Palestinians?

Can the Palestinians claim refuge in the other Muslim nations surrounding them, or have they tried to overthrow every single nation bordering Israel for making peace with Israel? Have the Palestinians and their supporters assassinated a US presidential candidate, an Egyptian President, a Lebanese Prime Minister, and a King of Jordan?

Is the official government of Palestine in Gaza listed as a terrorist organization by most of the Western world? Have they ever rebuked their original charter that says no peace is possible and that Israel must be destroyed? That references a command by their holy prophet that the end times can't come until they kill the Jews? And doesn't that mean in Muslim escatology that no one will go to heaven until the Jews are killed, because that requires Judgment Day to happen and judgment to be passed?

Didn't representatives of Hamas brag that they tricked Israel into thinking that they finally accepted peace so they could launch their brutal attack?

It's not like this shit has happened in a vacuum.

OK, looks like I was posting in the wrong thread, I've copied the Archbishop of Canterbury and Hamas refusing investigation of the hospital into the right one. Mods can delete those if they like.

Back in the War on Ukraine, a Russian noted anti-war activist has fallen from a great height to her death.

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2023/10/22/russian-anti-war-activist-dies-fall/

A Russian anti-war protester who became a symbol of resistance to the Kremlin has died in a mysterious fall.

Local media said that Olga Nazarenko had now died in hospital after a “fall from a height” two weeks ago that was described as an accident.

Several Kremlin opponents have been killed in falls and an anti-war activist in Rostov, southern Russia, also died this year in police custody from alleged torture.

Reports from a Russian Telegram channel state that Putin suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday night, per a former Russian general. Guards rushed in after hearing a commotion and Putin had fallen. He was resuscitated.

No independent confirmation of this story yet though. That being said, almost certainly there wouldn't be. Guess we'll see.

    1. Kill yourself. :)

    2. If Zelenskyy and his cabinet spent the weekend raping and torturing and murdering Russian children while recording it and calling their moms to brag about it, I'd support carpet bombing Ukraine as well.

    3. If members of my municipal government spent the weekend raping and torturing and murdering children in Calgary while recording it and calling their moms to brag about it, I'd either do my best to assassinate as many of them as possible or get the fuck out of town as quickly as possible, and if for some reason I did neither, or cheered them on, I'd deserve to die for my moral cowardice.

    4. Kill yourself. :)

Russia attacking against a broad front all across the East, still trying to encircle Avdiivaka which so far has repelled all attacks. It appears Russia has called up all their reserves and is launching their largest offensive for quite some time.

The Ukrainian line is holding and Russians are suffering monstrous losses.

I think they've finally understood just how vulnerable Crimea is, and we are looking at mass starvation over the winter.

Zelensky has vowed to gain fire control over all of Crimea before the end of the year.
