Not sure there's anything out there on that. Seems he might not be a devout Nazi, because he once compared his unit to the Israelites, saying they were put into a forced disapora and couldn't return home. Nazis generally don't compare themselves to Jews.

The unit he joined is interesting as well. While it absolutely was a Nazi unit and committed atrocities against partisan in Poland and the current Czech Republic, it also was a pro-Ukrainian group that evidently thought that they might get an independent Ukraine if they beat the Soviets. Again, this has to be taken into consideration that the Soviets conducted a genocide against Ukraine.

It's hard to find any group on the Eastern front that didn't commit war crimes by our current standards. But reading the specifics is always enraging. Units from two 'police' regiments of the 14th Waffen SS definitely were involved in the massacre of 500-1000 ethnic Poles while under orders of a German commander.

The history of this is worth looking into. The Waffen SS was declared a criminal organisation by the Nuremberg Tribunal, with every member being held as complicit in war crimes. This impacted on the fortunes of all who'd been involved - but in later decades Cold War politics led to the UK, Canada and others softening their stance. The many credible accusations against the Galicia Division were not pursued and Canada in particular became a haven for these people, something which I understand remains controversial.
