Name a good race swap movie. I mean, if you're not a racist, and your objection is a quality of the latest crop of films as a concerned self-appointed cineaste, then it follows there must be good ones. "Abby"? You like "Abby"? How about "The Wiz"? How about "Blacula"? Go on, bash "Blacula" I dare you.
You can stop now. I get it, you're willing to tie yourself in knots giving big studios every possible benefit of the doubt. Have fun with that.
I love how it is OK in @Uncle Albert 's eyes to dox trans people and go after them on the internet just for existing, but when the people who do that, libes of tik tok, get their name and address put out in public like they demand every trans person be deadnamed and publicly known like a pedo, then he is all bothered for the libs of tik tok lady. I get the rules over here. You do not dox other people, but UA is one of the dudes that repeatedly wants others to dox themselves, and there is no doubt in my mind if me or someone like @Amaris or @Nova ever exposed ourselves he would be all over telling the libs of tik tok lady. Fucking cowards, if you are going to endorse doxing people then you should be doxed too. If you do not, like UA does hide here without giving his address and full name out, then no one should dox you. If you are Dayton Kitchens using your real name and location as your online name, then you are the cause of your own trouble. UA should really just admit he likes seeing trans people, black people, women, and homosexuals get beaten up by others. How stupid do you think we are that we would not realize he gets a happy little chuckle whenever a trans person gets beaten to death and kills themselves.I will freely admit if @Jenee finally went all I spit on your grave and cut UA's nuts off and let him bleed out in the tub for the years of being an abusive fuck to her, I would have a good hearty laugh and a drink to her and her new orange jumpsuit. Does that make me a horrible person in other's heads, I would imagine so, and I do not pretend I am any different, so do not waste your time wondering. If that bugs you then do not like me. I find it very odd that UA tries to deceive people and simply cannot admit that is who he is, while making it such an obvious part of his online douchebaggery. If you need to hide like the libs of tik tok lady because you know your views are toxic, then go fucking hide. Stop getting mad at others for pointing and laughing at you.
He certainly made some money, since commercial work pays pretty well, but saying he made a mint, might be exaggerating a bit. It looks to me like advertisers generally ride a popular character for a while then dump them when they get to the point where they would have to pay them real money. Remember Larry J Culpepper for Dr. Pepper and the Wendy's Girl? Of course, there are exceptions. After 15 years "Flo" from Progressive must be making massive bucks, not to mention they've figured out how to stretch her acting ability by having her play other roles. She's also glammed down enough for the role, that I doubt if most people recognize her when she's out of character.
I'm not giving the studios the benefit of any doubt. I'm saying: prove your claim. You have generally failed to even pretend to to attempt to, other than to show circular logic with the unspoken assumption that a push for diversity is inherently going to result in lower quality. Despite it supposedly being ubiquitous that studios don't care about quality in their push for diversity, you've identified a single potential example: the Rings of Power, and failed to say how the push for diversity there resulted in a lower quality product (as opposed to what the quality of the product would have been with reasonably competent actors). You presented Disney's diversity guidelines and used the fact that it doesn't explicitly say "We want good actors and producers" as "proof" that Disney doesn't care about those things. I'm totally open to the prospect that your point of view is accurate or at least reasonable. But I'm not going to just accept it on your say-so.
If the writing of Rings of Power had matched the overall production values nobody would give a shit about the casting.
Correct. Gender swapping Starbuck was met with vitriol at first and was quickly silenced with great writing and great production value. That's how you put an end to it. If The Little Mermaid remake were good, then there would be very little complaints. Disney seems to think this swapping gimmick automatically makes for a good movie. Fans asking for good writing and character development is too much to ask for lazy writers that just want to write a few quips and a few lines of dialogue in between set pieces and action sequences.
I actually remember this, people were outraged at the Starbuck gender swap. Even Dirk Benedict himself had something to say about it Then Sackoff knocks it out of the park and turns out to be an even better Starbuck than dusty old Dirk
Since you clearly care about these things because you're actually watching them and not just falling for Internet rage bait, how would you say the live action Little Mermaid remake is inferior to other live action Disney remakes like Mulan, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, Alice in Wonderland, or Aladdin?
Nope... never apologized for existing... Even at work where I'm literally the token cis/het white guy on my team of seven. But then again, I don't force my coworkers or our clientele to justify themselves to me, either... THe nature of the job is to meet people where they're at. We accept that we're going to come at shit from different angles and so focus on the shared pieces of our perspectives. The Black woman born in Africa is going to come at something from a far different set of experiences than mine-doesn't make either of us wrong. Quite the contrary, our diversity brings us to a better solution You clearly can't guess my speed-let alone the miles behind me, but do try to catch up some time, m'kay?
I haven’t watched any of those because I was never a big Disney fan to begin with and have no interest in them. I did watch Beauty and the Beast and thought it was fine. I still like the original better. Same with Jungle Book. These live action remakes are just cash grabs. I’m sorry, but you’re just not going to top Robin Williams for the genie.
My Danish heritage is far more aghast at the disneyfication of that cartoon than the live action version of it
If you take out the Danish factor, then there's no reason for her to be white. For that matter, Triton is a son of Poseidon-a Greek deity. So there's already ethno-cultural swapping going on that purists should be appalled by.
It could be Alexandre Dumas, but then you'd be all up about quotas and pandering at the expense of more distinctly eurocentric authors.
come to think of it... on that basis there's no need for snow white to be Germanic if you're insisting on sticking to Disney versions (which already divert from the source)
Yeah, Robin Williams was a singular talent. I'm glad they went in a different direction instead of trying and failing to replicate his energy. You're right though, the live action remakes are cash grabs. The actors are always top notch, and the special effects tend to be excellent, the productions themselves are top quality, but there's no big message or pitch behind any of them beyond "hey, that cartoon you liked as a kid looks *real* now, isn't that exciting?" Which is why it's so dumb that when Disney hires an excellent actress and singer for Ariel that just so happens to be black, suddenly people are insisting that "lazy" live action Disney films are part of some elaborate money-losing political agenda to undermine the white man, and no one involved in them cares about quality.
A guy who has admitted he eats kittens would say that. Sorry I don't have any quotes to back that up, but disproving it is on you apparently.
He's not getting his slice. Now! If They make "Black Lady Captain Sparrow The Rollercoaster" and his shop gets the contract to make the girders, you won't hear a peep. He'll purr like a kitten.
No one here has offered one single good criticism of the new little mermaid. Most have not even seen it to know if it is good or not. I will say, as a person who has not seen it, that I have heard nothing that says this version is any worse than the other disney version. The only reason the other Disney version was "good" was it modernized animation and acting and brought in a soundtrack that was a bit more catchy for the family movies. That was big at the time, but the movie is not great by modern standards. It did not have any big radio songs, and the sing along songs are pretty standard fare now. I do not think it had any superstar VA power driving it. No oine has made any real backed up claim that this movie is bad for any reason other than Black Actress, which is just a racist reason for the movie to be bad. This movie may be overall better than the white version critically, but it is not going to be as popular because people expect more today than when the older disney little mermaid came out. Back then there was no streaming to wait for, and you had to wait for it to be out on VHS on a CRT 20-30 inch TV if you wanted to see it at home. It was well worth seeing a movie in theaters because it was so much better, but now you do not have that drive. I really do not think the production values, writing, CGI animation, and songs are going to be worse for this production.
OK, no one is forcing you to see the cash grab, are they? Your mommy taking you and your friends and paying for it does not count. T3chnically she is allowed to force you to do things because you are still a young child under her care.
No, if you fall for something, it should be conspiracy theories about Hunter Biden's pee-pee from a Russian spy. And if you participate in something, it should be a personality cult of a former gameshow host. Y'know, dignified sacred shit like that.
