Jesus Christ. Will you three knock it off? Storm, warned twice. ShootER, warned once. CD, warned once. PBM, as to your post. A seizing child is very important. However, nothing that has ever happened on this BBS is half as important as your hypothetical clogged shitter.
Why bother. This is why she's here. Trying to pretend she gives a crap while she gets people to flame her crispy and rack up the warnings. We know you don't care except if there is a chance to try and destroy the place so go back under your rock, Pthalo.
Try to! It's try to do something, not try and do something. She's not going to attempt and destroy Wordforge.
So is Storm the epileptic child or the clogged toilet in your analogy? Either way, it sounds like flaming.
First,. I apologize to you for jumping the gun in this thread. Second, you're right about the perspective. However, when you have a group of formerly loyal members so pissed off at the administration that they leave and contemplate starting another board, do you think dealing with rep should have been the first order of business? Contrary to the typical outright intentionally misleading statements by others, I do care about WF. I'm not here to start trouble, but I do see WF in a lot of trouble. The fact that tamar hasn't answered the query about A51 access contributes to the atmosphere of mistrust, the fact that you seemed to unban a pal who did wrong before the person he did wrong to contributes to the atmosphere of distrust, the fact that there were two sets of rules for banning GE and Storm contribute to the atmosphere of distrust. These things are a lot more pressing then your rule about rep. Which, incidentally, gives more power to the mods. Not a very smart thing to so, when members already think there is a clique of admins/mods/buddies that target people as it is..
What do you want me to say? It was the first thing that crossed my virtual desk so it's the first thing that got handled. End of story. What something looks like and what it is are sometimes two very different things and right now, I'm a whole hell of a lot more worried about results than I am about perceptions.
As for Tamar's Shelter access, it has been a tradition since the time that Cass owned the board for former Administrators and Owners, that remain in good standing, are allowed to retain their access. However, they have no official role outside of sometimes being the voice of reason due to their extensive knowledge of the board, it's history, and how things should be done. Look at it as a perk.
The results are you still have people pissed off at how this went down when you didn't have to. That's the reality. And your integrity as an honest broker took a hit because everyone knows you didn't have to bring the bans back one day at a time. Storm was the first one to apologize? Of course. He's the only one who had anything to apologize FOR. If you want the drama to subside, it would go a LONGGGG WAY for you to understand the results of your actions.
You know...on any sane board I've ever seen... If you get banned...then allowed to come back... Then start violating rules as soon as you get back... You aren't starting from ground zero...they ban your ass ASAP, it shows you have no respect for the rules, or the other users.
That's how it worked for me. And I'm 100% sure I didn't attempt to divulge real life information or make threats to poster's real lives.
But then people would start bitching about how rules are applied inconsistantly. "WTF!!! Only two warnings and Storm's already banned again?!? Unfair! You wouldn't have done that to <insert any random regular WF'er who's never earned a warning in his/her life>! You've always hated him!!!"
But when I was banned and returned I was on probation and if I were to be warned twice I'd have been banned again. So the rules, you see, are not being applied consistently.
Exactly my point. We can either have a strict, by the book, letter of the law style of modship, or we can have a case by case, flexible, spirit of the law style modship. Either style will piss some people off...and both styles, it seems, would probably piss some of the same people off.
You know, most consistencies can be seen as inconsistencies if you look at them from the proper angle. And most inconsistencies can be seen as consistencies if you pick the right viewpoint. Sometimes you just have to pick a rule and apply it and see what happens. Seems to me that that's what Elwood's done on these two latest matters. Maybe he'll continue to follow this rule in the future, maybe he'll try something different. Personally, I think it might not be a bad idea to get the question of mods and reputation wars out of the way quick so he can concentrate more fully on the important stuff.
Storm owns this board. He can do no wrong. Bad Storm! *spank hand!* (tee hee) Now you sit out a bit until the whiners shut up and then you can come back and have at them again. At the very least, one would think he'd at least pretend to behave for a while until everything settled down out of respect for Elwood. A week, two, would have sufficed. Now all of his cronies may feel free to neg-rep me, disagree, call me a troll or tell me to get the hell back to my own board. That's the WF way! But I'm not trolling. I'm here because I like and care about the place. It's where I get to come to relax. But what I've seen here in the past few days is disappointing. I lost a lot of respect for some people as a result of this, and I had a high degree of respect for at least one of them. That's too bad. But that's the way it goes. Since it's online and not RL, I can scamper away and forget about it, which is one of the bennies of online annoyances. You can just go find something better to do. And so I shall.
