I've bought very, very few things at Best Buy, and only then because I had to have something right then. I use the big box tech retailers for one purpose and one purpose alone. To get my hands on the item and test it before purchasing it elsewhere at a better price.
Wow, one person has a bad experience and everyone is up in arms. I've never had a problem with the service, supply, cost or any other thing at a Best Buy store. I've never had problems with my Reward Zone program and getting some extra cash back from my purchases is really nice. I've never really noticed differences in price, except Wal*Mart generally costs less by about 7 cents. Also, for an anime collector, at $20 a DVD that can be more reasonable a price than some other stores that charge $30+ for volumes of anime.
Fuck it all you want, in my local area, it is the best retailer for electronic entertainment. The Circuit City is paltry in comparrison, their DVD selection is four measely racks (two sided). Their store has large amounts of dead space, lacks flow and does not promote an enjoyable shopping experience. I'd probably have to travel out to one of our other major cities to see what other store have, but I really don't feel like traveling an hour just to browse.
Or do what Bush Advisor Clause A. Allen did: http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1172159,00.html Bush, always a great judge of character, nominated Allen to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit in 2003, but the Senate rejected him, thank God.
I've never exposed myself to misfortune by purchasing any big, expensive electronics at Best Buy, but they were the only place who had a Dethklok CD for me, so I'll not hate on them just yet.
I got a free reward zone card a week or so ago. I've never really had trouble with Best Buy. I don't bother with the reward zone type cards in stores. I tend to shop there a lot in the last few years with their in store pick ups. Saves me a lot of time driving around town to find something I've already decided upon. Though, the sales types do give me a bit of hassle occasionally. Like this dumbass who didn't realize he could scroll down his screen to see more stuff when he only saw two items while there were four items listed on the pick up sheet. Wasn't too bad, except he kept giving me this attitude like I was trying to pull something on him until he realized he goofed. Like said up thread, I don't ask the employees there for something unless I just can't find whatever I'm looking for. By the time I step into the store, I've done enough research online to know exactly what it is I want.
I purchase at Best Buy when it is convenient for me to do so. That usually boils down to price on the item I am interested in purchasing. I do not purchase their extended warranties because I have honestly been screwed over royally early on by both Best Buy and Circuit City. But, for me I will use them so much as it is convenient for me. I have no allegiance to them otherwise. Somethings I purchase at Fry's (although very infrequently because I hate having to deal with them too.) Other times I purchase things at Costco, or Sam's Club. I've found Sam's Club to be great for purchasing things like sd cards and hdmi cables and etc. It all depends on who has the best deal.
Best buy is horrible. We ordered a dvd series online and received an empty package in the mail. Called them and explained and they said to send the package back, which we did. Then we never heard anything from them, the claimed they never received the returned empty package.
I've never had a problem with Best Buy, but I mainly buy dvds and some music there. I don't buy a lot of electronics (though I did pick up a dvd recorder there last week). When my daughter's iPod died a couple of years ago, they replaced it in less than a week.
Wait, so your response is one person had a good experience? Hey just cuz where you're living blows and makes Best Buy seem splenderiferous doesn't make it true. I guess if the only restaurant by you was Uncle Fuckedity's Shed of Chicken Sushi then Taco Bell might well seem like gourmet dining. But (outside of San Angeles) we all know that's not the case.
Eh, I suppose there are some well run Best Buy stores. But there's a lot of shitty ones, dealing with their corporate side is like taking a slide down a razor blade into a pool of alcohol, and your chances of walking into one with awful customer service is a lot better than other chains. They just don't care about their customers is what I can see. Evidentally my wife was in one two months ago to buy herself a camera, she was looking at the upper end of the non-professional type, so around $700. She couldn't get a Best Buy employee to acknowledge her existence to actually get the camera that she wanted, so after a half an hour she left and purchased it at Penn Camera. They also don't seem to stock computer games worth a damn. About the only thing they have that they do well is DVDs. And that isn't exactly an exclusive market. Microcenter for computer hardware I have to have now (which is rare), everything else is online. It's generally 1/3rd cheaper at least, even with shipping.
Best Buy has great deals on harder to find music. Much, much better selection than Walmart for example. Then again I buy a lot of music from www.cdnow.com Anyway......
