Anyone about to pick it up? I think it should be out (worldwide?) within the next 12 hours? Team Xbox has put a review up, saying its by far the best game out on the 360....
I am getting it for the PS3. I haven't preordered or anything, but I imagine there will be enough for everybody, assuming you get to the store reasonably early.
Every where in my town has sold out of the 360 vers. Not getting it for a few months as i'm hammering other games right now. (PC) Did try out the Ironman demo out tonight. (unpacked my xbox)
I've gotten every new GTA game on the day of release since GTA: III, but I don't have an XBox 360 or a PS3.
The PC release is supposed to take a year or so. I don't have a PS3 or Xbox 360, but if I ever end up playing GTAIV and liking it enough, I may just buy one of those consoles. PS3 is the one that has Blu-Ray and XBox has HD-DVD, right? Which of the two formats is currently 'winning'?
My son is going to Gamestop at midnight to get his. He paid for it already a few weeks ago. Some places are refusing to sell it for it's graphic content (what else is new?)
Xbox is DVD HD-DVD was a addon and it also uses a download service for HD films* *Just found out when i plugged mine in for the first time in months!
PS3 has a Blu-Ray drive and the 360 is dvd, although a HD-DVD drive was available although it is now discontinued since HD-DVD is dead. As in literally dead, Toshiba has announced they are no longer making players and every studio has abandoned the format. We were just playing GTAIV for an hour or so here in the meeting room at work, it's pretty damn impressive from what I have seen up to now. Some framerate issues (which has always been the case with the GTA series on consoles) but not as chuggy as San Andreas was on PS2 and there is a lot more going on onscreen. I'm hoping to pick up a PS3 bundle with it in the next few weeks.
It is out already for the PS3? Damnit, I wanted to buy a gun with my gub'mint check just to spite folks, but now I may have to buy a PS3.
I got the week off(not enough holes in the cheese)... The shops open in about an hourso i will leisurly walk tttthe shop where i pre-ordered in about 50 minutes...
I preordered just in case, and I settled up the remainder of the cost yesterday so I can just stroll in and out today. Even better is I can stand off to the side of the register and just ask one of the guys working and he'll take my slip and hand me the game ahead of everyone else in line. It may be and ass thing to do, but I got my connections. I'm excited to try the multiplayer- any 360 owners want to meet up for a bit this afternoon/evening? Kane Rising is the gamertag and I'll be playing sporadically between 2:00pm and 10:00pm EST (GMT -5 hours).
Not at all. There are "straight out of Central Africa" black people who are extrememy dark. Then there are black people mixed with other races who are very light (like Colin Powell or Reverend Jeremia Wright). Of course, there are all shades in between, too. Same with whites....there's generally a big difference between someone from Ireland and someone from Southern Italy.
I picked it up this afternoon. A few thoughts: On the PS3, there are no framerate issues! None at all! Anti aliasing is very smooth, and I see no "pop-in" textures or objects. There is quite a bit of load time when you pop in the game while it copies files to the hard drive, but after that, there are no load times, except when you start a mission or there is an in-game cut scene. But while driving around, shooting, running, etc, there is no stoppage or delay like I've seen in other GTA games. I have not palyed the previous GTA's, so this is my first one, and all other GTA experiences I've had is because of watching others play it. So far, pretty cool story. I am playing through the missions right now. It seems in past GTA's you could go into more shops, but this seems like they are starting it with just the bare minimum and adding shops as rewards for completing missions. Where are the shopping malls, etc, from Vice City? The city feels alive and vibrant. There are hot dog stands, street vendors, little dives, but you can't visit all of them. I am hoping as I achieve some more missions, that these little shops will open up.
While there seems to be a lot of bickering about it on the net at the moment, from a technical standpoint the PS3 version is actually inferior to the 360 version. The 360 version uses tiled rendering to achieve true 720p internal rendering, whereas the PS3 version is rendering at 640p. Net result is that the PS3 version has a slightly muddier look due to the scaling. The PS3 has a bit less pop in though so honestly it just comes down to personal preference. The PS3 version has no AA, the edges are just slightly softened due to the final output needing to be internally scaled up.
All this is sadly irrelevant when it comes to the console audience. On the whole don't know dick about what they are talking about when it comes to graphics performance and quality, so really all that matters is that they think the PS3 version is better.
And as I said what version is better is extremely subjective depending on what type of image you like. There isn't any consensus at all at the moment with which looks better. Personally I think the 360 version looks better, however I intend to pick up a PS3 in the next few weeks for the game simply because I already wanted a PS3.
Like with every system, i doubt we'll see the peak of its capabilities until the next system's ready.
I wouldn't be surprised if towards the end of the 360/PS3 generation we actually start seeing more games rendering in a lower resolution in order to get more stuff on screen. Sort of like how early on a lot of PS2 games were 60fps but as the generation progressed and games got more complex they largely dropped to 30.
