You keep looking for this to have some "Free Garamet" connection, when it really doesn't.

I don't read every thread and certainly not every permeutation of the rules.

That's why I was surprised when I read this about the rules:

Taken on its face, that statement raises the issue that I've been wondering about for a while now in this thread. It doesn't say anything about there being a requirement to connect the dots to Wordforge. It just says if someone's name is in the public domain, it's fair game.

Certain people's names are published in the public domain more than others. Mine is. Shooter's is, and so forth.

Other people -- including you-- have stepped in since I started this thread to say that what was really meant by this was "If you talk to the NYT and identify yourself as a WF poster by the name of Joe Blow, your real identity is fair game." That wasn't obvious (to me, anyway, at 3 a.m. or now).

Elwood's posted in this thread and hasn't corrected that, so I guess that's the case.

I, personally don't think circulation is a good measure of when something should be fair game.

I see where the misunderstanding is. The quote from Elwood had to do with Garamet wanting people to cease and desist from using her Real Name after it being so public for so long. She wanted us to "restore her virginity", so to speak. It was determined in discussion that while such a thing might be considered for a noob who hadn't developed wisdom about such things, allowing such a thing for someone as loud about what they do and who they are as Garamet was out of the question.
Variations on that train of thought have been applied to Nick and Ted, also.

Cass actually doesn't know where she got it from....just recalled it off-hand.

So does this no names rule apply to every single person now on the WF members list? Even those that dont post here any more or who have a couple of posts or no posts? Or who are banned or have their accounts locked? And If I tell my name in the Gray or Blue Room, that doesn't count, right?

And if I have the name, phone number and address of someone who's not a member but still well known to a lot of people here, I wont get into trouble for posting it because they aren't a member here?

At first glance, I'd say all of that's right except the Gray Room bit.

I don't have a problem with the reasoning behind garamets ban, but I do have a concern about the timing. How long ago did the bannable offence take place? I don't even remember it. Then when it's finally acted on, she's banned right after Cass gets banned for the same thing. I'm not crazy enough to cry "conspiracy!" like both of them probably would in my place, but one has to acknowedge the timing does look a little sketchy.

What's the statute of limitations on a bannable offence?

Also she was OBVIOUSLY trying to get the mods/admins to contradict themselves so she could point out a "gotcha" with a big flourish.

It's not good to piss off the people who can ban you....especially if you aren't squeaky clean.

If it was around the time of the "Kirks initials in garamets sig-gate," then that was before April. It doesn't seem right to ban someone over something that happened over two months ago.

They broke the rules and got banned. Period.

Garamet has been taunting PO at various times for the last week with his name or nicknames based on his name.

Staff only realized it was going on and really his name within the last couple days though.
