Please Unban Rob Matter

Rob Matter came to this board having never heard of it by invite of me several weeks ago. We are both members of a board that used to have a lot more activity, The Frontier. The members just... grew up, and stopped playing by and large the geo-political games that the board had thrived on. Seeing that board dying, and liking some of the members, I invited two. Rob Matter came over, he other didn't (the other user was Jason).

When Rob Matter came, before he even posted, Elwood asked me how I knew him, etc. In fact, I believe I had previously PM'd Elwood because there was a delay in Rob Matter's membership approval. I was told people from that IP don't normally get approved.

Now, as many of you know, I'm an ultra-conservative. From his posting, you can tell that Rob is not. Yet, on the internet, we are friendly and I enjoy his posting. This is why I invited him.

This is an arbitrary banning. It's supposedly a case of "mistaken identity." I don't even buy that. From what I can tell, Elwood just doesn't like the guy, so he banned him for no reason and then pinned something on him - he's "a banned user." Well, from my understanding, Rob is at college. There are probably a lot of people with the same IP's that go through colleges. Heck, I have some employees at my office who lurk on this site, and we would all show as having the same IP. In fact, right now I'm at home, but I'm VPN'd into my company system - I would show to be at work. Rob Matter has in the past pm'd me some stuff about privacy on the web. Proxy stuff.

What I'm getting at though, is that this is ridiculous. We have tons of duals at this site, many of which are no doubt banned people. But we get new blood from another board ho is posting a lot, and then he is banned for no reason. It's hogwash.

Please unban him.

Surprisingly, I actually agree with you completely.

But that particular IP range has some special signifance for Elwood. An incident from before you came here.

Basically no one from that part of Pennsylvania is gonna be allowed to stay here. MY IP used to throw up red flags too... I lived in PA for a time.

But I'm mostly safe I think since I am along lasting member.

But the bottom line is that the admins will not allow this particular troublesome individual to come back, even if some innocents get knocked off.

It's not my place to discuss details but this individual had personal problems with Elwood.

As owner he can ban whoever he feels like banning really. He is surprisingly tolerant of a wide variety of trolls and spammers and he gives people second chances. Even folks he doesn't like. That's what makes him a great admin.

But in this particular instance it could be dangerous to allow that person back in...

Elwood is no longer the owner.

Drive to Pennsylvania and take a photograph of the both of you holding up that day's copy of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Yeah, doesn't make sense to me. Seems to me that if CM is going to go to the trouble to so thoroughly establish a fake persona in order to come back to WF, it would be a hundred times easier and faster to just get a different IP address; there are enough ways to do that.

Perhaps it's true that the people can't be trusted, but IP adresses certainly can't. So why not trust people instead?

For once in my life I have to agree with apostle. This really reeks of bullshit banning. 'course I don't have proof, but the spidey sense is tingling intensively.

With all Elwood's drunk threads last night and the fact that he allowed him in initially, I'm starting to think our beloved officer just had too much to drink last night. I request a sober decision.

Especially given the fact that Rob Matter is participating in a lot of forums besides the Red Room - fitness, media, etc.

I would appreciate it if, no matter the outcome, you would please send Rob Matter an email explaining what has happened. I'm sure he's clueless. I would go to the-frontier.com and tell him, but I don't really even know if he's there much any more.

Guys, come on. I'm not going to start my time as owner by second-guessing Elwood. When he comes online, I'll get his side of it. Till then, be patient.

Out of curiousity....if he read this thread to find out what happened...how did he know the person banned was Cheeky Monkey? No one had mentioned the name here until your post quoting him?

May have read it in the thread where Elwood announced the ban.

I wasn't here yesterday but for a few minutes in the early afternoon so I am trying to sort this out.

The particular IP hit is a private server, not AOL or something. It's quite specific and few people have access to it, AFAIK.
