Eh. Make your own dirty joke there. I have a pretty uncommon last name, so I always thought any Google hits that came up would be me. But I have an uncle who's a fairly reputable professor, so he gets a lot of hits. And his son has been blogging since before blogging was popular, so he gets a lot of hits. So a challenge I've faced (I think) is that I claim I can do all these things for a customer/employer and then they Google me and don't find anything online, so it all looks like bluster. Well now that I finally have LinkedIn and Facebook accounts, and I make comments fairly regularly in groups I'm a member of, I'm finally getting so that my name starts showing up in searches. The next step will be getting a web "storefront" up and getting a blog going. So what does a Google search for you turn up? Thoughtful, cogent observations related to your profession, that demonstrate that you are a respected expert in your field? Or photos of you, passed out in a pool of vomit, at a frat party in 2002? Because that's the other benefit of creating Googleable content--it helps to hide any regrettable things you've done. Or at least mitigate them.
If you're on facebook, try searching for yourself as well. It's amazing how many people I share a name with.
Im all over google, so are my pics in google pic searches Then again I'm man enough to use my real name online
When I search my new last name only, I come up with articles about OH's rich and crazy ass grandfather. They're hilarious.
Googling my name mostly gets results for an artist from California. Facebook-searching my name gets a lot of hits for people in England.
My real name only gets a couple google hits - I tend not to use it online, preferring the "Lanzman" pseudonym. However, you do turn up a bunch of british guys with my last name . . . the family is from England on that side and there's a bunch of "us" still there.
I apparently have my own (ugly ass and expensive) line of men's clothing. I was going to order a shirt just for the hell of it...and seriously...it's all ugly.
My full name in quotation marks gives three solid pages of me in German google, with the first ten pages mostly about me. The first three on US/int'l Google are mostly me, but then there's a sharp drop, from where on an American athlete with my exact name competes with a large US company that is known by a part of my name.
I usually don't use my real name online....no need to right now. But, I get a lot of results when I Google it. Pretty crazy.
My actual name comes up mainly on awards lists with only a few other hits (like property tax sites and such).
I used to be on page one of Google results, but that was a while back when I participated in a magazine article that got a great many hits. I get hits for a fairly prominent American historian/professor whose middle name is the same as my first (our surnames are the same)...I believe I'm related to this person as my father told me we had relatives in the same area of the country this man comes from. My last name is fairly common, both in America and in England (I've visited multiple towns called by my surname in England). Awhile back, a person whose title includes my surname made a considerable amount of news in England and around the world. There are several American celebrities and historical figures with my surname. If you think you know my surname, PM me. If you're right, I'll give you 10 pos-reps. (Man Afraid of His Shoes, shootER, and Tamar are inelligible. )
If I Google myself from near work or home, all my work stuff comes up first. If I try the same search from the UK, I'm nowhere to be seen.
I once met a person at a tournament with my exact same name. It caused much confusion when they would call one of us up to a ring. When I Google my full name (last name's rather rare) most of the few hits relate to me; I think the others are about that other person.
Weeellllllll, the first hit for my name appears to be a Wikipedia list of Nobel Prize recipients . . . No, seriously, there are a few hits for papers and presentations and stuff related to my research at college, a stray hit from my high school days, aaaand . . . huh, a few others, and the rest is geneology stuff.
I googled my name, and apparently I totally kick-ass! Doctor, Artist, Lawyer, bitch, tease, goddess on my knees.... I can do it all!
My real name turned up football players and various adults of varying educations. Lethesoda? Every. Damn. One. (so far)
When I googled my last name, I got a large number of Military officers(German Generals, British Army colonel,), a Nasa photographer for the Apollo program, French Aristocrats, Authors, and, interestingly enough, Otto von Bismarck. Google is very handy for this sort of thing! I googled myself, and all I got was my Facebook page and a cousin of mine in Deux Sevres, France that has the same name as me....
I find my twitter page, some articles from the last college I attended, facebook, some myspace blogs, stuff from my grandfathers funeral, family tree stuff, and some awards that I have won. that's if I put my name in quotations. If I don't I get all that plus Hillary duff's sister.
Next one is a big pic so I'll link. http://celebslam.celebuzz.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/jade-goody-bikini-front.jpg
