On one side, I believe that David Letterman was making a joke or a funny that got way outta hand..on another side, however, I think Palin had every right to be angry at him for what he said. It's none of his business whether or not her daughter is unwed but pregnant geessh..it happened in my HS in 1996!
Heh. I see your 1996 and raise you 1980. Furthermore, the left side of social politics - where Letterman firmly resides - isn't supposed to approve of being judgmental about sexual behavior, right? OT: I can't place your avatar but I know I should - remind me?
Well, I like Lettermen. Always have for some reason. But he is way over the line here, and like Marso, he has gone up in my dumbcunt meter 10 points for doing this. He's still years away from being close to 14thDoc territory though.
No matter who he intended the joke to be about, he should apologize. I'm not a big fan of Palin, but the joke just wasn't classy, period. By the way, I think a trip around the country could be pretty darn educational for the 14-year-old. Considering she probably also had a tutor the entire time, it's easily better than how most child/teen actors have it.
He's a fucking asshole for attacking Palin's child. Double that for it being the young one he went after and then his lame lie to try to get his foot out of his mouth. He's about as funny as a hemorrhoid. Then again, none of the late-night guys are any good. I've not watched a late night show since Johnny retired. Even when his jokes fell flat, he was twice as funny as any of them.
Hell, when Johnny saw the jokes were going flat he at least knew how to adlib and forget the stuff on the cardboard prompters.
Doesn't that happen to every high school with a class size that's more than five students big? Teen pregnancy isn't that big of a deal anymore. Whether is should be or not is very much up for debate, but I think everyone entering high school after the Era of Shame knows at least one person who had a bun in the oven before they walked down the graduation aisle.
Hey, I kept myself pure during High School! 'Course I had lots of enthusiastic support from all the girls...
Well we all know how that double standard goes. As for Letterman not knowing which daughter was travelling, too bad! I know people write his jokes, but it's still his responsibility to know right from wrong. Remember when Letterman used to throw stuff off the tall buildings, and run things over with a steamroller? Apparently that was his artistic peak. I can't believe I have an autographed letter from when he had my picture (and read my letter) from Iraq on his show. Should I wipe my ass with it, and mail it back? Maybe I should do it on Youtube.....anyone "double dog" dare me?
I think some may be losing sight of the fact that people can pretty much say whatever the hell they want about each other, and there isn't a fucking thing you can do about it. All the "crossed the line" this and "demand and apology" that is just so much monkey spank.
^ UA - you're also forgetting he's selling a product. Consumers have a right to organize boycotts and put him out of business if they don't like his product.
No, I didn't forget it. I believe ya'll are doing more than bitching and assuming anyone cares when I see it.
You said Nobody's saying he should be sent to a gulag for speaking his mind. They are saying that he crossed a line that they think deserves an apology. At this point, there are only a very few who've demanded anything more or that he be punished with removal from TV. This isn't political except where's he's made it so by picking on a politician who actually had the guts to push back. Sure, she's a public figure but she's also a mother who's going to take care of her kids as best she sees fit.
Don't you think that "removal from TV" is a bit of an overreaction? There's little to argue that, regardless of which daughter it was, the comment was in poor taste, but demanding or expecting the network to remove him is a little extreme, and it sets a bad precedent. That kind of censure is just another brand of political correctness, and it really isn't any more palatable. While Palin certainly had the right to be indignant, it's kind of disappointing to see her making a big issue about it. She should have made a single response, something subtle, a sly crack about Dave's decline into partisan cheap shots, and left it at that. Doing so would have demonstrated that she has a thicker skin, and understands that, when you're in any kind of limelight, assholes will take cheap shots. If she'd made a modest response to Letterman's crassness, she'd have looked like the bigger person, and Dave would have suffered the consequences at the hands of those currently calling for his head now anyway. At some point, some high-profile public figure is going to have to butch-up and take this "Freedom of Speech" thing seriously, and not act like a toddler whose kid brother just stole her cookies.
I sort of agree with UA on this. Nobody should have to forcibly "remove" him from TV....if people think he crossed the line, they can change the channel, and democracy/capitalism will prevail. In other words, lower the ratings far enough, and nature will take it's course!
They could also censure him - remove him from the chair for a definite period of time with no pay - and then let him return and see if he can do a decent apology and then get better writers to write jokes that are more tastefull and at least funny.
Well that fucking pussy apologized to that shrew bitch and her dumb fuck husband apparently. What's more, I bet her 14 year old daughter is also a whore like her older sister.
No, it's Sarah Palins fault is was misunderstood, because she's a manipulative bitch who's trying to use her allegedly "off-limits" children for political advantage. She's loving this. She's going to ride the victim routine all the way to the White House if she can.
It's obvious by this bitter post of yours that you cannot help but type your incoherent ramblings created to disguise your Canadian, pedophile lust for Willow Palin.
I would laugh my ass off, watching you scream bloody murder if Dennis Miller called the Obama kids "porch monkeys" or something.
