The competition, sad to say, has been pretty light. I have to agree, though.

Is that the best ya got? I at least expected a zombie Reagan comment.

Ronnie would've been 99 today. Even with the Alzheimer's he'd run laps around Obama as President.

Reagan was a good actor, and a master at deceiving gullible audiences :bailey:

Alas, poor Ronnie. His legacy so corrupted by those who came after.

Best president of the postwar era. :salute:

    Reagan made some mistakes.

    Deficit spending, illegal immigration.

But his biggest mistake was making George H. W. Bush his Vice President.

Jack Kemp would've been a far, far better choice.

Yeah...that's the ticket...the ideas weren't wrong, his successors just weren't good enough....

And communism just hasn't been tried by the right people....

    He at least tried.

I wish Goldwater had gotten a chance to try. Given the Congress at the time, he probably wouldn't have gotten much further than Reagan, but I would like to have seen what he could do, at least. I remember, though, that even the die-hard Republicans in my family preferred Johnson over Goldwater. Johnson...!

In point of fact, Reagan's ideas were correct. Confront communism, smaller government, lower taxes, less interference.

^ True. If only had succeeded in really implementing them, America would be stronger today.

That's why I hate Reagan. He said all of those things, but did the exact opposite and made everybody feel all warm and fuzzy about it.

    Reagan killed true Conservatism IMHO.

The only people communism works for are dead people.

Of course, communists had no problem creating vast numbers of those...

I will give him one thing, he could take a bullet without getting all police-state-y afterward, unlike Burlusconi of Italy who can't even take a little statue to the face without turning into the Burgermeister from "Santa Claus Is coming To Town".
