http://www.rte.ie/news/2011/0220/libya.html Gaddafi seems to be prepared to go much further to crush protests than any of his peers. 104 dead. The courage of people to keep going in the face of this is pretty inspirational.
The reports I'm seeing say over 200. Of course, it's extremely difficult to know who is telling the truth right now.
Over 360 people were killed in Egypt, not including police and prisoners. The military who is now in charge is getting ready to stop all protests.
Muammar Gaddafi has to kill three times more to equal Egypt, to "go farther than any of his peers" as Henry says. I never thought Muammar was that bad of a guy, even when we were bombing him. They say he surrounds himself with beautiful women at all times. That is what I would do if I were King.
Except that the Libyan protests have been going on for less than a week at this stage. You're a retard.
Video: Bahraini protesters shot in cold blood Lots of Americans both military and civilian in Bahrain. Interesting times indeed.
Navy's 5th Fleet HQ is in Bahrain. Interesting indeed. The Muslim world in flames. Everything is proceeding as I have forseen!
Me too, and I'm not even the king! Unfortunately these women are using pepper spray and dialing 911 most of the time, but I'll take any action I can get at my age! Anyway, "tree of democracy periodically fed with blood" and all that. I can't fault the people for their actions I guess. Regardless, turmoil in the sandbox keeps food on my table, so I'm definitely putting a positive spin on it. BTW "Turmoil in The Sandbox" is a great movie title. It could be a political thriller, or a Pixar 3-D classic - think about it!
Supposedly Gadaffi's men opened up on the protesters with machine guns, mortars and anti aircraft cannon. Frankly I'm surprised the death toll didn't hit thousands within minutes with that kind of barrage.
Amazing how Israel is hammered by these same people for how they deal with rock throwing protestors, yet in their lands they machine gun peaceful protestors.
Seems like now's the perfect time to advance some more democracy. Bahrain would make a great 51st state. Or maybe we should just keep it as a territory for a while so we can avoid all those pesky environmental wacko groups who'd keep us from sticking our oil straws into the desert there.
I visited Bahrain not too long ago, got a friend who lives there, and it was a pretty cool place. Lovely weather, nice clean streets and generally a very decent standard of living from what I could make out (opposite of those backward Arab countries who've also seen civil unrest recently). Lots of Americans hanging around there too. Speaking to my friend who lives in the capital where all the shit is taking place, he claims Hizbollah/Iran-affiliated fanatics are behind the protests and that the average person in Bahrain supports the current leadership. Iran has long claimed Bahrain as their own and considering Bahrain has a majority population of Shia Muslims (same as Iran), it won't surprise me if Iran are stirring trouble in Bahrain for their own benefit.
Be specific, Baba. Are you talking the stuff that Frank Herbert wrote himself or the tripe his son and KJA shat out?
Actually, in Dune, the spice melange was really a metaphor for any resource you want to name. "He who can destroy something controls it"
CNN was showing pictures of how average people live in Bahrain. Sure, the capital is new but even on a small island living conditions for the majority outside the city limits are pretty poor plus the government is ruthlessly Sunni and discriminatory against Shia. Since Shia make up something like 80% of the population that causes a lot of unhappiness.
Heh. Yeah, like I want a swarm of warring Shiite and Sunni Muslims in a shithole halfway around the world as the 51st State. Hell, I'd rather admit Puerto Rico to the Union. Well, maybe.
