I'd take MiG-29K's over old A-4s any day. They're a whole generation ahead of A-4. Plus the Foch was designed in the late 40's and built in the very early 50's while the Kiev class carriers were designed in the mid 70's and built in the early 80's. Besides most of the Indian air force uses Soviet designs so their pilots are already familiar with flying MiGs.

Hell, the MiG-29 is so good that the German Air Force continues to fly them to this day (the east Germans bought them in 1988 before the wall fell).

I was merely illustrating the price difference. The reason I'd buy the Foch instead of the Gorshkov is simple; Gorshkov was built by the Russians(strike one), suffered a major engine room fire in 1994(strike two), and when completed, will not have steam catapults to launch aircraft(strike three, you suck.). The Foch has been trouble free for it's entire career, has been regularly updated and refitted throughout it's service life, and has steam catapults capable of launching a MiG-29k(the Dassault Rafale is comparable in weight, and Foch was capable of handling them). Would I rather have a '63 Citroen that's been babied and improved all it's life, or an '83 Moskvitch that's been sitting in the backyard, cooked by an engine fire 13 years ago? Fuck yes. I'm sure there is a reason the Brazilians went with a golden oldie like the Scooter, but the Gorshkov is a bucket, and I give it 6 months in Indian service before a major engine room casualty occurs. And by the way, those German MiG-29's you spoke of were sold to Poland in 2004.

My theory: There's a significant number of [Hawaiian] Islanders up here--for whatever reason. You want to go someplace that has bad drivers? Go to Oahu. First off, the speed limit is consistently 5-10mph slower than it should be. On top of that, everyone drives another 8mph or so slower than the speed limit. And then there's a decent chance you'll get behind someone with a "Slow down, this isn't the mainland" bumper sticker. I swear, you could stick zombie Mother Theresa in a car on Oahu and within an hour she'd want to murder a hobo.
