A standard stop turns into another outraging video of a bad cop. The driver clearly attempts to inform the officers several times, and clearly has the permit in his hand, waiting to show the officer.

The officer goes nuts from the get go, tells the citizen to shut up, and makes phrases like "As soon as I saw that gun, I should have taken two steps back and shot you."

I hope this lawsuit is huge.

The volume was low and the writing small, so I couldn't catch it all. Let me get this straight...

driver is pulled over, doesn't tell the cop he has a gun? So why did not tell the cop? In Arizona the second a cop pulls you over the first words out of your mouth should be "I've got a gun." Cops do not like surprises.

This may not be the cut-and-dried mega-lawsuit it seems it will be.

For those who don't want to slog through the video:

The cop oughta lose his job, but I'm not holding my breath on that one. :jayzus:

There's also the slight chance he was there picking up a prostitute. You know, because there was a prostitute there and he was in the prostitiute district. And why didn't he say something when the other cop was in the back searching his car?

But man, that's one angry cop. I dunno about a lawsuit, but that cop probably shouldn't be a cop.

In Tennessee, I am not required to inform the officer that I have a permit and a weapon unless asked. In North Carolina, you have to notify the officer and present your permit with your drivers license.

Hmmm...so the cop looks like an idiot because he never noticed the gun until it could have been too late? BTW if someone were trying to kill a cop they wouldn't wait until several minutes into the stop, I wouldn't think. They would have tried/done it earlier when they had the element of surprise. - basic common sense combat tactics.

Regardless, required or not I would announce I had a gun immediately and be reaching for the sky.

Apparently the dude tried several times to let the cop know, but he kept cutting him off.

No, you should be outraged. The citizen's state and Constitutional rights were being violated by a sworn police officer.

Did he tell him in a timid, low volume manner? Just me, but I would have shouted that shit. It might piss him off, if that ship already sailed it beats getting shot by a hair-trigger cop who feels threatened.

I agree. I would have yelled "I have a gun" over and over again, until I knew the officer knew. Too much is at stake.

    Of course, I don't carry a gun.

Mullet Man has a great idea! Tell the cop you have a gun when you don't and watch them on their wild goose chase.....

.......I think this was on Punk'ed at one time.

You have to say it in a way that also doesn't sound like a threat.

"Officer, I have a gun in the car." two seconds later, "Officer, I have a gun in the car" at a higher volume. Repeat until you get a response.

and for every one of these that's caught on video, how many are not. Without that video, this honest citizen would have been in jail or had no recourse to get justice.

Here's an idea, give cops less power.
Most of their operational rules come from extreme or unusual circumstances that have changed laws or given them new executive powers based on a need.
Occasionally redressing and re-establishing an accepted baseline is required, in this case... yesterday.

Yes. That's the correct approach. I was talking to Mullet Man in my last post. I think yelling "I HAVE A GUN, I HAVE A GUN!" sends the wrong signal.

For my money, a government employee should be the last person to know I'm armed. IMO, the Second Amendment was written as a safeguard against our own government as much as foreign goverments. Truth be told, the 2nd has nothing to do with hunting and very little to do with defense against criminals--it is a safeguard against tyrants like this pig.

That's a great thing to say if you want to get 17 bullets in you. You never say I have a gun! You never say I have a gun and a carry permit! The only thing the officer will hear is "gun."

When I'm pulled over, I do exactly what this man did. I have my permit out and my hands on the steering wheel.

For verbiage, I say "I have a carry permit and I am armed."

The citizens did everything he was told to do and made an attempt to comply with the law. This officer should never work in law enforcement again , and this citizen will hopefully teach that department of lesson they will never forget in the form of a massive lawsuit. From the fact that this officer's partner did nothing, I assume the entire department is bad.

Cop should be himself in jail, if only for the utter lack of professionalism. Guy acts like a psycho.

I think the cop just gave up his cop priviledges. He was not only EXTREMELY unprofessional, he seems to have committed multiple felonies himself during the encounter.

I don't care what the driver of the car was there doing. There's nothing that justifies that level of unprofessionalism. The cop should be fired, no two ways about it. The chief's public statement, conceding the officer's unprofessional behavior, indicates there's no circling of the wagons going on for this one...

    Really?

Not "*hissing noise from back of throat with tongue waggling out while opening fire* *sexual panting while reloading, empties clip again*"?

Well, geez, this whole "manners", thing keeps throwing new rules at me every couple years.

Wish the fashionistas would make up their minds.
