Just heard it on the radio. FoxNews is saying that Santorum is giving a conference today at 2 pm to drop out.
Glad as fuck he's out, but it's a bummer about his daughter. Must be serious, he's had to drop off of the campaign trail a few times now because of that.
Saw this one coming. The news the last couple of days has been about how he can bow out gracefully. Some major Evangelical leaders were telling him: "You tried, you failed, now you're doing more harm than good, because what matters is beating Obama in November." That means that he lost his major support base. It also means that the Evangelicals are going to hold their nose and swing to the Mormon. How ironic is that? In any case, it's been over since the beginning of February. Any pretense it wasn't was just to try to keep it interesting, because now there won't be any real news until the conventions. Both parties have their nominees, they'll be saying bad things about each other, and nothing of importance will be happening. Do you think we can live without constant election news?
He was also set to lose badly in his home state so getting out now saves him that humiliation. What was distasteful was how some of Santorum's talking heads tried to blame his disabled daughter for the reason he was pulling out claiming he had to spend more time with her. Just man up, admit you lost, and get out but don't try to blame it on a child.
If he would have passed up the opportunity to cover his exit with his daughter's illness he would have been even more astonishingly stupid than anyone has yet give him credit for. That said:
Supposedly, he struck a deal with the party bosses that if he leaves now, he can make a speech at the convention.
I hear suspending a campaign is different than a flat out drop out, in that, legally it allows him to have some leftover campaign money trickle in. I'm not at all stunned that some turd somewhere made that bit of business legal.
I'm not stunned. Not at all. It makes SENSE. Hillary left a lot of people hurting when she ended her campaign. Small printing businesses, caterers, etc.
Considering his stance on women's issues, I say that he needs to carry his dead campaign to term rather than aborting it.
He was never really running for Preesident, he was runnung for Vice President. Or, he was really laying the ground work for a presidential run in 4 years.
Ya know, since Santorum is already out of the Senate, and since there is no ongoing race...if this HAD been a new thread, the implications of the title in terms of assuming the logical subject matter are...most uprorious...
