So, the City of Toronto voted yesterday to completely ban plastic bags.

On the heels of New York City banning giant-size sugary drinks, I think this nanny-state bullshit is getting out of hand.

Worse, Toronto city councillors invoked Seattle as a model.

    Seattle?!?

That fucking fantasyland hippie commune that teeters on the brink of being crushed by its own smugness?

They're going about this all wrong. The solution is one law that just bans people. Everything else is unnecessary then.

They did the same thing in Los Angeles the other day too. I'm sooo happy I moved away from that festering shithole.

New Jersey is a beautiful state. If you stay the fuck away from the cesspools like Camden, Trenton, Patterson and Newark -- the rest of the state is nice towns, rolling hills, forest and farmland.

Oh, and we can still use plastic bags.

Your state is a cesspool of government protectionism and liberal ideals.

Your gun laws are oppressive. Your leadership is among the most corrupt in America. I don't understand how it is possible for you to have such an awesome governor as you do now, while the rest of your state sucks so hard.

Your property taxes are so high it is as though the Sheriff of Nottingham is ruling by proxy.

And, as a non-resident who has spent as little time in your cesspool state as is possible, an example of ridiculous regulation and protectionism in your state can be found every time you visit a gas station and have to have your gas pumped. :|

I have a feeling that a PERSON might be the reason you hate CA and like NJ - that and your inability to process information in such a way that you draw a logical conclusion from it and your horrible, horrible taste.

Perhaps, but the countryside is pretty. And we have bears.

    - Nothing prevents me from owning a gun. I don't even have to register them with the state.

    - The corruptness of our leadership is on par with California, New York and Chicago. Thankfully, I don't live near them.

Our governor is only marginally awesome, but he lacks in other areas. As for the rest of the state, it ain't bad at all.

Yeah, our taxes could be better. They could also be worse. As with any other state, it all depends on where you live. Those towns located the closest to NYC get taxed the worst, as to the more affluent communities....like everywhere else.

But we also have one thing here that I'm sure you're starving for in your area of the country -- jobs! You can pay next to nothing in property taxes, but if you don't have a job it doesn't matter.

And yet New Jersey continues to have the lowest gas prices in the nation. Fancy that.

Nope, I grew up there and over time got sick of the congestion, crime, soaring inflation and living in the desert.

I think you're a fucking idiot. Therefore, my taste and ability to process information is spot-on!

Now eat a bag of dicks.

If it's modeled on our law (which is actually modeled on Bellingham WAs), then paper bags are a $.05 fee collected and retained by the business.

    Plastic bags fucking suck.

They're flimsy, groceries roll out in the trunk, especially heavy shit, like soda-bosses, the only reason grocery stores like 'em, is the cost, and baggers like 'em cuz you can pull 'em off that rack thingy faster.

    But, they suck.
Well, nowadays, now that they're made of that shitty translucent orange-y (sometimes greenish) shit.
They used to be made out of a thicker stuff that could take a stretching.
    Now, not so much.

Wastebasket liners, that's what they're good for.

    That's it.

We use them to collect eggs. Paper bags would just let the eggs roll around.

He is, even though he's a dumb blowhard most of the time.

Problem is, most of the idiots who live in Toronto elected a council full of left-wing fantasyland wingnuts.

Thankfully, I got the fuck out of Toronto more than 10 years ago.

Paper bags fucking suck. Difficult to carry more than 2 that are fully loaded and they usually rip thanks to a poor packing job by the acne faced pipsqueak packing the bag. Plastic is where it's at - rarely break, you can carry like 12 of them at once and are also not too shabby for suffocating hookers.

Wet/cold things should always be double bagged.

Also, toxic toiletries and cleaners should be separated from foodstuffs, and infectious things like chicken and beef should be kept separate, and if not possible, separated by wraps.

It's all in the bag-boy movie they make you watch, if your bagger ain't doing it, they're a rotten little shit that didn't pay attention.

Yeah, but I don't have to haul shit into the store before hauling shit out of it. Plus I don't have to worry about washing my reusable hippie bags so I don't catch some nasty bug and shit myself to death.

I don't know what the humidity is like where you live, but around here, you could quadruple bag that shit and a paper bag will still dissolve on you in the car on the way home. I can't even trust the handles on a cardboard 12-pack box.

Plastic bags have all manner of resue potential, especially if you have a dog. And the handles break far less often, at least on white bags. I think the dyes reduce the strength of the bag. And you can store many more plastic than paper in a given volume.

There is some symmetry in using the same bags to haul in the beef and oats I feed him that I do to pick up his turds later on.
