Does if the writer of the movie worked on it, and canonizes it.

In my universe, "The Transformed Man", and "Songs From Outer Space", are canon.

Except in the new comic books Kirk killed Mitchell, his friend, just as the original Kirk did in the original timeline.

Now I know that many here don't consider the comics canon but the last movie was telling people to buy the comic to get the backstory on the craptastic villain in essence making those comics canon.

So why not these new comics?

With all this water stuff is Abrams trying to do some weirdbeard remake of "Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World"? Or "Moby Dick"?

Of course since Abrams Trek is a reboot (even if it's not an obvious one), they can do pretty much whatever for all the difference it would make.

Or, maybe they found Khan's ship later than before, and by then, all the freezers failed, Khan died, and only John Harrison lived.

    It's not Khan.

    It ain't Mitchell.

In fact, I don't give a fuck who Cumberbatch is playing. He is an awesome actor and the movie already looks like it's going to kick ass.

    Re: star trek:into darkness

there ya go...except it would be earlier, not later. Assuming the new canon is that this Kirk took command at a younger age than "our"Kirk.

ETA: actu7ally, if it's earlier than you can't really assume that the new timeline had such a vast butterfly effect that Khan's pod failed - you'd have to assume (or write, but I doubt the would bother to explain if this were the actual plot) that some other Starfleet vessel found the BB, and these other folks, being less skilled than Scotty, managed to kill all the Augments except "Harrison" - thus providing him the motivation to "have my vengeance"

Ya know....we might just be on to something here...

    Re: star trek:into darkness

STID's Prologue begins on 1996 Earth with Khan (Cumberbatch) & Co. being shoved aboard the Botany Bay by an ancestor of Kirk's (UN Peacekeeping Marshall Jackson Roy Kirk*). As Khan Ent al are being put into their cryochambers Khan screams how he'll get Kirk & have his revenge !

    * Not Jackson Roykirk! Seems B&-, err, Abrams & Lindelof are pulling another almost Delta Vega here !

    Re: star trek:into darkness

Entertainment Weekly just published a few new pics from the movie. None of them reveal much about the plot of the film, but I found these two to be rather interesting:

This picture seems to show at least four guys who are about to die. I also thought that Cumberbatch was a lot taller than this.

Uhura is looking more fuckable than ever in a brand-new catsuit! But does the color suggest that she's also about to meet her maker?

Look, all I want is Jack Black to sing the full-lyrics version of the theme song.
Opening credits, end credits, doesn't matter, it's just gotta be in there.

    Re: star trek:into darkness

The catsuit is probably some kind of Starfleet tracksuit. Lord know that they even have color-coordinated space suits in the Abrams-verse, so a department colored tracksuit would hardly be out of the question. If it is meant to be her regular "uniform", I guess that would be in keeping with the way he treated women like a piece of meat in the last movie, though. :garamet:

    Re: star trek:into darkness

I can't think of a practical reason for the cat suit, but I don't mind seeing her in it :D

The color makes sense, though, as she traditionally wore red, even though a member of the bridge crew and never at any real risk of dying.

IIRC, the team that was down on the volcano mission was dressed in such suits in the trailer. she likely either just got back or is about to leave. likely this is some sort of "environmental" suit.

A page and a half after the superbowl trailer and no one is talking about how the Enterprise is full of holes and falling out of the sky?!?!

ETA: also, I'm going with Cumberbatch as an android (specifically one of Mudd's). He doesn't use contractions. No, that's not a hard and fast rule in Trek, but it is a clue.

So EW might have spoiled who Cumberbatch is playing.....

    Spoiler at Link

I suppose one could surmise they're merely assuming that's who the villain is, but I'm not so sure.
