So that rounds out the cast of characters as being:
    Frock
    Uhur-ne
    Shotty
    Lenma
    and Kirky Derpa Doo?
(Sulu doobie doo was too obvious)

Although, the change to the Mystery Machine's paint scheme would be interesting.

Couple of very minor points after sleeping on it:
Simon Pegg is shit and his comedy too broad (in this role) for my tastes.
They might as well be done with the main uniforms in the next films since they seem determined to keep Pine out of the gold tunic, which doesn't suit him anyway.

If the chatter on my Facebook news feed is accurate, STID will be a huge success. One guy even said it might have been better than TWOK.

So your logic is that of Khan's?

"Dayton: Why don't you hate the new Star Trek?"
    "BD: Because you wish it."

Saw it last night. 2000 CDST showing in IMAX 3D. I heartily endorse it. It is what it is. A summer action popcorn flick. It doesn't pretend to be anything else.

I see the reviews, and then I read about the movie on Wikipedia. It's like someone has a poorly written summary - or even a fake one up. Because on Wikipedia, it sounds horrible.

Yet everyone I've talked to who has seen it loves it.

I won't go THAT far, but as already mentioned, it does address the issue that some had with TWOK that Kirk and Khan never actually meet face-to-face. That, and Khan has a far better motive for revenge in this film that directly plays into Kirk's development as a character.

Khans motive for revenge in TWOK was pretty damn good if you ask me. Rock solid in fact.

You prevent me from being the bad ass ruler I am while trying to hijack your ship, strand me on a planet, and then never bother to send anyone to come and check on us, our planet gets the shit kicked out of it, and I have to watch my people and my beloved wife die in agony.

I was never very satisfied with that actually. Khan was happy with the resolution to Space Seed, and as a superman, why should he expect Kirk even could help him? The thirst for revenge in TWOK stems mainly from the fact that Khan has lost his sanity. Just got back from STID, and I am in firm agreement that the revenge motive is massively better.

In conclusion, Alice Eve is incredibly hot. Go see the movie!

Listening to people rave about Star Trek: Into Darkness makes me feel the same way I felt when Barack Obama was elected (and reelected)....

    There are similarities.

Just as I think more people like the "idea of President Obama" than actually like "President Obama", I think a lot of fans like a "Star Trek that everyone considers cool and sexy" rather than liking the Abramsverse on its own merits.

And I happen to be one of them.

    To Dayton:

I think you give fans far too little credit. Enterprise was also marketed as being "cool and sexy"...and we know how that turned out.

Going to see it on Saturday. For those who've seen the 3D, is it worth paying the extra money? I really don't like 3D, but if it enhances the experience, I'll give it a shot.

No. It's one of those fake 3D movies that have been rendered afterwards with a few jump scenes CGI'd in.

Are you sure? I thought I remember reading that they actually shot it in 3-D instead of the awful post-conversion process.

That's what I did. I much prefer my movies in 2D. 3D gives me a headache, plus I wear glasses.

    Please enlighten us.

And why should someone not enjoy a movie just to enjoy a movie for the entertainment value of it?

Get the fuck outta here with that shit! You are in the minority. Everyone else loves the movie. Go back to your mom's basement and weep bitter tears of defeat. You lose.

Spent 20 minutes on a long response and my phone ate it.

After seeing it last night, here are my thoughts in brief:

    1. Action-packed and visually stunning. Very enjoyable but with some flaws.

    2. The plot is just enough to hold the action together, may not make sense when you think about it, and is full of contrivances.

    3. Cumberbatch is good, but this version of Khan bears little resemblence to the guy from "Space Seed." Also shoulda given more than a line or two about his historical backstory.

    4. Kirk/Spock bromance plays well, though filmmakers gettting perilously close to making Spock too emotional.

All-in-all quite enjoyable, but it would be nice to get something a little deeper.
