Nobody saying anything about the elephant in the room? You guys want to keep that under wraps, I understand. But the secret's out. www.nasa.gov is down. We noticed the US is saving on server costs too, which is, frankly, rather embarrassing. I mean come on, closing websites and national parks? I can't be assed to look it up now but those things can only be drops in the ocean of financial problems. Anyway. Thanks, Tea Party. I hope you get chucknorrisfacekicked by the American people come the Midterms in a year. Now on to October 17th. Should be fun for the whole world when the TP übernuts block raising the (theoretical) debt ceiling!
Faced with such a situation, the government always chooses to shut down those things that will attract the most attention to the people and cause them to feel put out. That way, they can do like you and blame it all on the Tea Party and make themselves feel like victims, even though they are the ones who ran spending up and up and up. People can easily be made to see what you want them to see. It's called propaganda.
Not gonna happen. The GOP has sent 4 -- that's four -- proposals to the Senate. The Senate, under the leadership of Reid, refuses to even consider them. There are two reasons why: The GOP CR seeks a delay on the individual mandate for one year, and second, the GOP CR seeks to hold Congressional employees to the same terms under Obamacare as every other American. Reid and Obama won't have that. They want to force people to use a system that, at least as of today, is a laughable failure, and they want to be exempt from having to pay what everyone else pays to have that failure of a system inflicted upon them. In short: They don't care whether or not it works, and they refuse to fully participate in it. This is Reid's and Obama's shutdown. They will be made to own it.
I'm no fan of either American political party, but this is so clearly the Republicans' fault that only a partisan douchebag would deny it. I think the GOP is going down over this issue. Maybe it will finally shake your crappy two-party system up a bit.
You have the factors and yet don't seem to reach the correct sum. The things which are closed are puppet theater, selectively designed to provoke outrage without really mattering much at all. Thanking the "tea party" is EXACTLY the reaction that decision makers purposely set out to provoke - in other words, it's just as much political circus on the left as on the right. As usual. Keep the peons distracted with irrelevancies while we take more of their treasure and liberty. We've seen this dog & pony show repeated many times.
Which is EXACTLY what was said when it happened almost 20 years ago...and it didn't happen then either. Personally, I don't think there's more than 3 or 4 TOLERABLE elected officials in the whole congress, but you can make just as good a case that the Dems are at fault as the Republicans - it all goes back to what your initial assumptions are. Both of them are doing exactly what they promised their voters they would do when they got elected. There's no real reason why the Dems couldn't have thrown the GOP a bone with a couple of minor adjustments - like the provision that members of Congress should fall under obamacare - except this one: they believe it politically damages the GOP for the shutdown to happen. So no bone was thrown.
I for one and happy for the shutdown. I want the whole thing to be shut down indefinitely! Bring the country to a screeching halt and have the whole fucking corrupt, incompetent system come crashing down around their ears! Maybe then people will realize how BOTH parties have done nothing for the past 50 years but fuck the American people in the ass, and overthrow this oppressive and tyrannical system that enslaves us to their whims.
As its been said, so much of this "shut down" is nothing but show. Really, the WWII Memorial had to be "shut down"? For fucks sake it is an open area viewing area on the national mall. The government didn't have the money to allow people to walk through an open air public space, but sure as shit had the money to install gates and guards. Thankfully the WWII Veterans who were set to visit yesterday told the guards to fuck off and walked passed them. Bread and Circuses. Lord Obama wants to make this as painful as possible so he is throwing the biggest fit he can to make it as painful as he can and he's failing.
It has also been pointed out that, what was it, three weeks ago we had money enough to go and bomb Syria? And we had money enough to spend how many hundreds of thousands of dollars studying duck dick?
Completely and Utterly False. As in the EXACT opposite of the truth. Every CR that the House sent to the Senate has been voted on. And voted down. The House has refused to hold a single vote on on a Senate CR.
Just because you vote something down, doesn't mean you consider it. They're not considering them - from my understanding, they're not even sending back much feedback. They're doing the same thing the correct people are doing: demanding their way, or the highway.
And there's money to keep the airlines going. Why? "Because we say so", pretty much. Shit, "we say so", everything open, and admit it just shuts down stupid fucking Congress.
And fuck all those non-political federal employees who just want to go to work, do their jobs, and pay their bills...right? You can cheer for other people not getting paid as soon as you stop getting paid when this shit happens. And I would concur...even I am blaming the TEA party for this. Stomping their feet and throwing a tantrum. And I supported them before they got coopted by the loons.
There are a lot of people blaming the Tea Party who coincidentally aren't looking at what the Senate has been doing.
The joke is that simultaneous with this Great Tantrum to Stop Obamacare, enrollment in the ACA began yesterday and proceeds apace.
By "proceeds apace", do you happen to mean "is plagued by glitches and system failures"? As bad as Obamacare is, the fact that the sites peddling it are so prone to failure is just suck icing on the failcake.
If by "is plagued by glitches and system failures" you mean "Any site can be overloaded when too many people try to log in at once," you're correct.
I like how the bureaucrats are spinning the outages and failures. "Hey! The glitches and registration failures are just a sign that a lot of people are really excited about this, which is a good thing! It's like a happy failure! And as soon as we fix this, the next step on your health care journey will go without a hitch. Promise! Oh, and praise Obama!"
They had three years to get them ready. They kept boasting about how magiwonderfabumiraculicious Obamacare was supposed to be. (Never mind that part of the reason for the current shutdown is that they're screaming and fighting like maniacs to stay away from it...) They had not only the time but, apparently, every reason to traffic-proof these sites well in advance. So this excuse simply does not wash.
Maybe people not getting paid will be just the catalyst needed to start the revolution. Throw out each and every member of the Executive and Legislative branches of our government! Fire them all and don't allow them to ever hold public office again. Ban political parties and start voting in moderates who are not in the pocket of big business, the banks, or the lunatic fringe.
Mmm, like they did the last 17 times this happened. The most that will happen this time is that some of these crybabies will be shown the door in the midterms...
I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier. The shutdown happened on the 30th, right? Will all of the Social Security, Disability, Welfare, et al checks be processed on the 1st and 3rd? If every senior out there can't pay their mortgage, buy groceries, etc. this month, the economy could go south quick. Not to mention things turning ugly on the civil side. I'll have to call my grandparents and ask if they received their deposit.
To quote Marvin Tikvah, "Oh c'mon, Shelly!" Taking the GOP down would be like chopping a brain right down the middle. Then you'd see PDQ just how interlocked the Republicrats or Demoblicans are. They might hate that side of the brain, but they're gonna act really odd without it.
