Maddie, Here in the US a traditional New Year's Day meal consists of: fish or pork, black eyed peas, greens & cornbread. For fortune, good luck, good health & prosperity. Foods that shouldn't be eaten on New Year's Day is beef, crustaceans & poultry.
Hwuh? Which region is this tradition from? I've lived mostly in the southwest, so I'm not saying it's not a tradition somewhere in the U.S., I've just never heard of it.
On The Eastern Side Some People Makes Sauerkraut Instead Of Greens, In The Southeast They Make What's Called Hoppin John W/ Black Eyed Peas, Spices, Onion, Green Pepper & Rice.
I could go for something refreshing. But make mine a cider. Strongbow is mighty good, so's Angry Orchard.
