12 days til Christmas.. :xmasfire::xmastree::sleigh::xmastree::xmastree::xmastree::xmasfire::wreath::wreath::xmasballs:
My Christmas showed up early, so let me take this opportunity to step around behind the counter here in the Cafe and make us all up a batch of Irish Coffee while Larry isn't lookin'.
if its vegan i will have a bowl thanks....if not i will content myself with this bottle of Chang i popped top on five mins ago!
Well, I'm not a real high roller -- not yet, anyway -- but I like to go with the standard: Black Bush. Not that I'll bitch 'n' mope if it's Jameson's.
as for me - i only made it once - and that was a long time ago....so i actually forgot what i put in there - there was genuine freshly ground/brewed coffee, and a dribble of real cream as it was before i was vegan - but the brand of that certain 'other ingredient' well...whatever i had some of at the time, i guess....
Speaking of Irish coffee, I could go for some -- but without whipped cream. I don't mind that every now and then if it's a festive occasion or something -- or if it's kept to a respectable minimum and the mug is good and large -- but other than that, I like plenty of big bold dark roast coffee, Irish whiskey, and Bailey's. Brendan's in a pinch. And that's it. I don't need a mountain of empty sugar froth hiding the goodness underneath. Something I could really go for right now, now that we're on Irish (or quasi-Irish) fare -- Irish chips. A whole pile of 'em, nice and savory, and something to dip them in, though I can't think just what it is I'd want for the sauce. Maybe tartar sauce. I know, I know; I'm weird.
Well, whaddya know, it's morning. 'Bout time to fire up some breakfast elements. I'm thinking a big country breakfast. Bacon, sausage (links and patties), biscuits and gravy, eggs, and pancakes. Get these diners in this diner... um... dining. And let's not forget the dark roast coffee, fresh milk, and fresh juice in varieties both orange and grapefruit.
I can't drink grapefruit juice (Medications) but your welcome to it. Last night I was in the mood for a shot of Old Grandad on the rocks.. Haven't had that in years.
Old Grand Dad is some mighty fine whiskey. Late dinner time. I'm thinking something all home-like; for example, southwest style chipotle meatloaf with sour cream and pickle relish, and mashed potatoes with gravy under a layer of melted pepperjack cheese. For drinks, my thinking is a 16oz. glass of Angry Orchard cider with a double-shot of Bulleit Bourbon bombed in.
havent a clue when it comes to whiskey - i cant even tell a scotch from irish....lol. now if we were to talk red wine.....i might be able to name-toss a few aussie/calif reds at you....but, whiskey is just 'strong stuff' you add to coffee from time to time...IMO
Bulleit Bourbon is a brand a local celebrity (Molly Wellman) promotes.. It's a BIT pricey for me.. But I am sure it's GOOD. My Aunt drinks Lauders Scotch.. It's OK
I'm no whiskey expert, but I'd describe the difference between Scotch and Irish whisky as being pretty minimal. I get a little more peat from Irish and a little more smoke from Scotch. When it comes to Bourbon, you get more of a wood/leather/sweet combination, going the same way as rum but not as far down that road.
With Old Gran Dad the secret it to take small drinks, and enjoy the flavor, it's VERY smooth and not to strong, I put a few small pieces of ice in it, that's all.
That's my favorite way to drink Scotch. Two cubes -- not one, not three, like you're dealin' with the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, dig? With bourbon, it really depends on the brand. Maker's Mark, I like to drop that in cream soda. Bulleit goes good with ginger ale. Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve is a neat sipper. When it comes time for budget shwillin', it's Early Times and Coke.
True, that! Although if I'm not in the mood for Coke as a mixer with whiskey but still want the carbonation, root beer works nicely. Root beer also has the benefit of being decaffeinated, which is a latent safeguard against failing to pass out when passing out would be the better part of valor.
Never tried 7-Up. I usually keep to a rule about mixers -- light/clear/citrus mixers for clear booze, dark mixers for dark booze. Might have to give it a shot, though.
7 up goes well with Canadian Whiskey like, Canadian Club.. or better yet Seagrams 7 which is Blended American whiskey..
