A new rating system has been installed. Instead of only having the option to "like" something, you can now like, dislike, agree, disagree, among other options. A few changes will be noticed: Primarily, in your mini-profile on the main page next to your user information, is a number system that shows your rating totals. When you give someone a rating, it is listed in your "ratings given" list on your main profile page. When someone gives you a rating, it is listed in your "ratings received" list on your main profile page. To see the ratings people have been given, and by whom, you can click on the word "list" next to the rating itself (situated above their signature, under the post options), and it will show everyone who left a particular rating. Some details are still being ironed out, but I will answer any questions you have. RATINGS KEY:
Actually this was initially my idea and it had nothing to do with bringing back immature twats who want toys to play with. The idea was that since the Xenforo software didn't allow for a rep comments mod and people wanted one, this would be another way of adding more expression to the "likes/rep" system beyond just a Facebook style like button. There are other variations that are possible on this buttons, so rather than bitch about it, maybe suggest any refinements you'd like to see?
Not sure what counts as negative/neutral, or whatever total comes after the "/" in the "ratings" field, but getting rid of the negative/neutral counter would be a good idea. Posters having a vehicle to express their negative opinion about a particular post without clutter or flaming is useful, but any feature that visibly counts negative rep will be abused in the end, giving an unnecessary vehicle for assholism and reducing the usefulness of the rep feature as it becomes more likely negative rep is about a poster and not the post.
I agree that it's not necessarily a good idea, but can we get a list of what effect the various options have on ratings?
What Chup said. The only reason Lanz got rid of it was because of the rep warriors who are now dead, long since gone or will continue to find out things to bitch about instead of staring up his own board like he said he would eight years ago. I thought it was wrong to punish the whole board for a handful of bullies and the equally small handful of whiny babies that wanted to neuter the entire board...babies that still took off anyway.
I wonder how easy it would be to have the content of the "List" link appear in a mouseover? Also, which of these categories would best fit "I hate what you're going through there"? I think that was one of the main reasons we wanted such a differentiated system. Would it be "friendly"?
So I see that Face & Archangel have already set about trying to start a rep war by neg bombing people for a reaction. Got to laugh. Middle aged adults ladies and gents.
This is stupid and unnecessary, and it uglies up the mobile browsing experience. But I'm not paying the bills here, so do whatever you like.
1) And a reaction there was, where is :repwhine: 2) I shall spend my bored time at work as a I see fit. 3) You think other's aren't repping based on little vendettas? Like I said, what could possibly go wrong...
Can we alter or expand the ratings we can give? I would like to see a "that's racist" button, as well as a "sexy/flirtatious" button.
While you're at it, since the new system is essentially a polling system for individual posts, shouldn't there be a "teh baba" option? It could replace "Bad Spelling."
