The trailers for the last two Terminator movies also looked a lot better than the last two Terminator movies.
Isn't that twist the one that a lot of people tried to predict for TSCC? I actually like that the film seems to embrace the crazy, I like time travel shenannagins movies.
I was one of the few who actually liked T3. Didn't care for much of Salvation, but thought it got some elements right. I'm having a hard time getting interested in this new sequel / reboot.
Fuck yeah!!! I just switched my Waze voice over to the Terminator. I'm way more excited than I actually should be.
One the things I always appreciated about Arnold was how much he enjoys being a movie star, he never whined about being famous or about his fans.
Linda Hamilton has been on Defiance lately. In this week's ep she was helping the main characters escape and said "Come with me if you want to live." I got a chuckle out of it.
Initial reaction to second clip, "the brakes are gone!" "Air brakes do not work that way!" Then the drive line thing happens and it kind of turns into a "fuck your physics" moment anyway.
One of the very few and it wasnt exactly a ringing endorsement. It's at 40% on rottentomatoes right now and it hasn't even released yet. If the audience reaction is similar I'll be skipping it.
Meh, Human Centipede 3 has some of the worst RT rating ever, and that's one of my new favorite movies of all time. I'm gonna go see it (Genisys, I mean). I'll be my own judge.
About to watch Genisys, hoping it's better than what the reviews have been giving it. I do have high hopes for since most of the movies I end up enjoying and really liking are usually panned by reviewers. Most of the reviewers seem like morons anyway. And it's just their opinion anyway. And 5 minutes left to start time, I'm the only one in the theater. So there's that.
If this one bombs--and that looks like a distinct possibility--this franchise is...wait for it...terminated. Still, I'm going to check it out this weekend.
'Zat mean you liked it? It's running pretty well with audiences at RottenTomatoes, just not with critics.
1 & 2 are an impossible act to follow, it's just gotta be better than 3 & 4 for me. There are bits and pieces to like about 3, and I liked 4 better than 3, and actually kinda enjoyed it. If 5 can clear the bar of 3 & 4, I'll be happy.
Saw it. Kinda...pleasantly surprised. No, it isn't up to the Cameron films. But, no, it's not a train wreck, either. Far from it. It moves along pretty quickly--it's pretty amazing how much is covered just during the opening credits--and I never felt like checking my watch. Minuses: 1. Time travel plot contradicts the internal logic of time travel. But the original film was guilty of this, too: if the Terminator has gone back in time, isn't it impossible for the existing timeline to continue so that you can then send Reese? Or if you can still send Reese, don't you know he'll succeed because the timeline hasn't changed? 2. The plot turns on a character somehow having knowledge of an alternate timeline (think Guinan in "Yesterday's Enterprise" or K in MiB3). No matter how much technobabble you wrap this in, it's still BS. I will say that it pays off in a quietly effective way. 3. Characters are pretty flat, just standard action movie types. 4. You realize how good Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn are as actors (or, perhaps, Cameron as a director) when you see others play their roles. Emilia Clarke is sorta okay, but Jai Courtney just doesn't make much of an impression. 5. Benefits everytime J.K. Simmons is on-screen; wish his role was larger. Despite these weaknesses, I enjoyed the film and got involved with it. A bit of forced sentimentality in the climax should not have moved me, but it did. A question raised but (deliberately?) left unanswered: 6/10.
I actually liked 4 quite a bit. I disliked 3 so much that I've only seen it the one time. I'll wait to see 5 on the teevee.
I have time now to give a write up about the movie. So the reveal of John Connor in the trailers was a bit of a surprise killer in the movie. But there is still another reveal that occurs during the movie that should be a nice surprise to fans of the Terminator series and some sci-fi fans as well. The first Terminator film can be considered Sarah Connor's story, the second one can be considered John Connor's story, the third film is the story of John and Catherine Brewster, the fourth film would be Marcus Wright's story. But the 4th film/story can be somewhat disregarded since the previous films and this new one can ignore it without changing the first three film's continuity. I know, the 3rd can also be disregarded as well. If anything, Genisys can be considered Kyle's story. As with the last few Terminator movies, this one also starts with a voice over explaining what has happened up to the point where the movie starts. Once we do get there, we see what happened right before Kyle was sent back to 1984. This isn't a spoiler since the trailers reveal this much. It's a good addition as we get to see how Kyle wound up being sent back in time, and how that decision was made. It also gives us some insight to the Kyle Reese character we never had before. There is a small error during the setup scenes that doesn't fit in with the first Terminator movie, it's a minor one though and doesn't really affect the storyline unless you really analyze it. When the Terminator and Kyle arrive in 1984, the movie has to be given credit as to how well it follows and copies the first movie. The only real differences are thing which couldn't be avoided. Bill Paxton and Brian Thompson either wouldn't or were unable to replay the roles as the punks. Other than that, it follows the first very well. And it does so until a certain point where the "new" timeline diverges. From this point on a new storyline is created, and it does so very well. There are further shenanigans involving Terminators, guns, chases, and explosions. After they arrive in the present or almost present day, the story seems a little rushed but still hold together very well. And for those wondering, yes we do get treated to several Terminator vs Terminator fights, and they are for the most part pretty damn good. And even though Arnie does play an older Terminator, I think you'll like how he was played out. Think something along the lines of what was said in T2 "Of all the would be fathers who came and went, he was the only one who measured up.", except this time it's Sarah. The movie also has its humorous parts, almost all of them coming from Arnie as the Terminator. Overall I enjoyed the movie and if I had to rate the Terminator movies, I would rank them as follows. #1 - Terminator: Judgement Day\Terminator: Genisys #2 - The Terminator #3 - Terminator: Rise of the Machines #4 - Terminator: Salvation Once more people have seen it, I'd like further discussion it. But for me, it's a very worthy addition to the Terminator series.
I'm reading more and more people saying they were pleasantly surprised. I may go and see it now as a result.
