Saw it last night. Very good, very enjoyable. The cast is great right down the line; special nods to Corey Stoll as bad guy Darren Cross and Michael Pena as hilarious side-kick Luis. Although the stakes in Ant-Man are pretty high, the immediate dilemma is smaller and more immediate than most superhero films. My favorite special effect? About Mid-Credits Stinger: About Post-Credits Stinger: Another winner for Marvel. I'm sure I'll be catching this one again. Score: 8.0/10
The Arkansas Democrat gave it a good review (they seemed somewhat surprised). They noted the differences between the D.C. and Marvel Superhero movies. That D.C. seems to insist on giving theirs some kind of angst of internal conflict while Marvel movies just want to have fun.
Which is funny, becaus the comics were noted for the exact opposite - the DC comics were light hearted 4 color affairs, whereas the Marvel comics tended to be more angsty.
Also, there was a "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice", trailer before the flick. It's a couple seconds shorter than the Comic-Con one. Can't remember now the chunk they cut out, but it was noticeable at the time.
Just got back - that one was as good as any marvel flick to date IMO. It was a fun story that also set up all sorts of important stories for later - and if that's what Wright quite the film for, tying in other aspects of the MU to the story, he's an idiot. The humor was excellent, and I loved how they worked in the late 90s version of Pym when he wouldn't wear the suit but had a trick or five up his sleeve due to the Pym particles. Some thoughts: Tons of fun, and I'm glad they made the credits scenes a big deal again. So next up is Civil War and then Doc Strange next year, then Guardians 2 and Thor 3/Ragnarok, then the Infinity War.
Caught the Friday 10:00 AM matinee, easily the best time I've had at the movies this year, hell, since Guardians of the Galaxy!
Yeah, Marvel's hit it out of the park. Again. This was supposed to be a troublesome movie, switching directors, and the difficulty of making an engaging movie that involved shrinking and insects, and they've made a warm, funny and exciting movie with a decent, and grounded, villain. And all the little bits, from the under-construction Triskelion in the late 60's, to the new Avengers building, I think we can start calling what Marvel are doing a tapestry. Along with GotG, I think this is going to be a favourite and eminently rewatchable. I hope Marvel keep pushing the type of film they're creating and keeping it within the same reality, it's genuinely good to see, and for me this represents what the cinema screen is for - something on a grand scale, something entertaining and something that is quality. A lot of films manage two of those, but Marvel keep getting all three.
Oh, and the film has Edgar Wright all through it - you easily could see Lang and Luis being played by Pegg and Frost.
If I have a phobia of insects, am I gonna have a problem watching this? Are the ants realistic looking?
I liked it. I liked it a lot. It was more fun than a lot of the other Marvel films. I'd rank them like this: 1) Avengers 1 2) Avengers 2 3) Iron Man 1 4) Guardians Of The Galaxy 5) Ant Man 6) Captain America 2 7) Captain America 1 8) The Incredible Hulk 9) Iron Man 2 10) Thor 1 11) Thor 2 12) Iron Man 3 Just my opinion of course. I think Thor is an interesting character and he's got an interesting setting to play in, but Chris Hemsworth is kinda dull in the role. He works better in the Avengers ensemble when he has someone like Downey Jr. to play off of. Not too interested in Thor: Ragnarok, but maybe it will be cool if they throw in Surtur and/or the Enchantress. I know that Iron Man 3 is well liked among others, but I really disliked the movie. The villain sucked, Tony Stark was acting weird and paranoid the whole movie, and the scenes with the kid were tiresome. Also the Mandarin fake out was lame. And its all pretty inconsequential, you can easily skip from Avengers 1 to Avengers 2 without watching it. Its the only movie I don't own. Also am not too interested in the standalone Spider-Man movie. Give the character a break already. I might enjoy it more if I didn't have to sit thru the two Amazing movies.
I'm hoping at some point they bring the Mandarin back - they've set up with the extras that there is a Mandarin, and he's out to get Ben Kingsley's character for mocking him. Evidently there was also a character among the Hydra agents who had a ten rings tatoo on his neck - I didn't see it in the film though, it was probably dropped on the cutting room floor. But yeah, Ant-man was tons of fun, and if I have time I'm going to see it again soon.
My ranking: 1) Avengers 2) Captain America: The Winter Soldier 3) Guardians of the Galaxy 4) Iron Man 5) Ant-Man 6) Iron Man 3 7) Avengers: Age of Ultron 8) Captain America: The First Avenger 9) Thor: The Dark World 10) Iron Man 2 11) Thor 12) The Incredible Hulk
1) Capt. America: Winter Soldier 2) Guardians of the Galaxy 3) Avengers 4) Ant-man 5) Captain America: The First Avenger 6) Iron Man 7) Avengers: Age of Ultron 8) Thor: The Dark World 9) Thor 10) The Incredible Hulk 11) Iron Man 3 12) Iron Man 2 But honestly, IMO they are all good. Even my #12, Iron Man 2, is a B+ in my book, and I'll stop if I'm flipping channels and watch for a while. Ant-man ranks high for me, because I found the exploration of the size alteration to be excellent, and it was character driven. Age of Ultron I was looking forward to immensely, and it was really good - I just thought the action went on to long, and it lost focus because of that. I would have like a slightly tighter story. But it was still very fun, and I saw it twice in the theater.
Just got back from Ant-Man, it was great! I really thought it was going to be silly, but it wasn't. It was a great origin story, it had a lot of strong character moments, it was funny and great tie ins to the MCU. It's a solid film that fits very well into the MCU. I give it an A. 1) Avengers 2) GOTG 3) Cap. 2 4) Iron Man 5) Ant-Man 6) Avengers 2 7) Cap. 1 8) Iron Man 3 9) Thor 2 10) Thor 11) Incredible Hulk 12) Iron Man 2
I really can't place positions for the movies any more, as I'll fancy a different one for a different mood, so I'll go: Excellent (in no particular order): Ant Man, Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Winter Soldier Really Good: Iron Man, Iron Man 3, Thor, Age of Ultron, Captain America Good: Iron Man 2, Thor 2 Watchable: Incredible Hulk
I have yet to be disappointed by the MCU films. Of the pre-MCU Marvel films....they pretty much have to be Ghost Rider, Elektra, Man-Thing level bad for me to give up on 'em.
I saw it last night. Better than I expected. I am not going to rank anything, because I haven't seen them all.
Just got home from it. Yes, they did it again, and at this point, I'm rooting for them, like watching a favorite player's lucky streak going on and on as if forever. I did enjoy it, but I have to say, the plot has some problems in the first half, and it also takes a while to pick up ... not so much speed, but swing.
