It is true, I can probably amuse and pleasure myself at once, but think of how jealous that would make everyone else?

I have done really well in my career. I did a great job of riding the 90's tech bubble, and living around westchester and putnam county NY at the time put the world at my feet. I went to broadway shows, skipped up into CT for some gambling at foxwoods because AC was too low brow, had some of the best shopping and amusement you could ask for all within the area. I did whitewater rafting and the paintball thing. There were amusement parks all over the place. People watch on TV the ball drop, the macy's parade, and the fourth of july down in NYC. I have done them all. Do you remember big and FAO Schwartz with Tom Hanks dancing on the piano? I danced on that piano in that store as a kid before that movie came out. I have seen Billy Joel in MSG, The Medowlands, and Yankees stadium. I sat 9th row in MSG and didn't blink at the cost. I have had the career and I have had the money.

I grew up in a home in a desirable area. Areas like westchester, Manhattan, Lichfield, and grewich was where i grew up. I would not call my family rich, but that is because I have played with the families with that much money. I learned it did not make them happy. I watched their kids commit suicide or race themselves to death on speed and lots of cash. Money does not solve all the problems of the world. Money does not buy happiness, but that is a lesson many people cannot understand until they have licked the silver spoon.

You do not get the reality of it because you have no idea what it is. There are not that many areas with that much going on. Living and growing up in an area like that is something few people see. Just because you live near a big city doesn't mean you have a clue what it is like. Each city has a different style, but there are only a handful like it. These cities are not just big, they are important.

Whine as many around here might, I had already been there by the time I was thirty. I am going to say something for the people who read this far, which is probably no one. None of it means a fucking thing. You spend all that time and effort trying to impress others. You get the right things according to them, not according to you. You do all of that shit, and you keep up with the neighbors, and then when the crash comes it is every person for themselves. You were a great person to them, and when you need a hand they are not there. I saw the anihilation of the retirements of most of the people around me. All that hard work and living as their companies wanted them to meant nothing when the layoffs came and their retirement funds were gone because some banker used it to cover the risky loans their friends in the banking industry made. I watched as the cost of their land and houses dropped by half or more of what they had spent on it and yuppie neighborhoods turned into white trash ghettos. You think after all of that I would ever put my trust in the suits again?

I have no problem for you living for the judgment of other people. You might even make it to be big time. I have been there and found that there was nothing there for me. I did everything they wanted, and I did it better than any of my peers. It mattered a tiny little bit, but not to them. All the toys I liked playing with the most did not come from money. The times that were the best were not the times I spent doing rich people things. I have more fun down watching improv shows at a little theater in Atlanta than any broadway show. I have more fun lighting off fireworks in my backyard than watching the macy's show. I felt better at a small town tree lighting in AL than at NYC macy's thanksgiving parade. I also like my car just fine because it is fun to drive on long trips.

As for being bothered because @Faceman , @El Chup , @Stallion , or even you do not regard my life as some great thing, well no duh. In regards to your path I do not know if anything I say has any worth. Nor do I really care that much. I like the sound of my typing, so I do it a lot. If you want to tell me this does not have any meaning for you, I would agree that it probably does not right now. But if you want to tell me how it is meaningless to me do remember I do not judge my life by your standards. I do not live my life as per your desires or reasons. That is what really grates on most of you. You spend most of your time living up to someone else's standards and hope someday you will be allowed to live your own, and just like a prisoner it sucks to watch people who are free live as they please.

In the original D&D elf was a class if i remember right. AD&D was around for a long time and made a universe that has a rich history larger than hubbards middle earth. Not to insult hubbard as it was developed over many years with lots of contributors. It had a few mechanical problems, but you could work most any possible action out. Which is why the specialization came as new systems became played and then cannonized in additional material which fit on the base structure. This is up until the end of second edition.

Third edition D&D was really heading towards being a WOW tabletop game. By the fourth edition it was clear that was where they were heading. However, by that time I was almost fully running modified WoD systems. I found it to be far more comprehensive and adaptable to LARPs. It was easy enough to develop systems which removed dice play with a point dedication system that made skill resolution so much more straight forward. It also forced people to play with their strengths much more rather than relying on luck of a roll. Still, I do enjoy D&D second edition and play when I can.

Actually unlike an online RPG i have met many friends at gaming cons and participated in nationwide games. I find tabletop gaming to be a lot more social than people give it credit for. I have been at plenty of game nights where if you removed the game it would just be a party. I don't care much for Magic the Gathering, but I used to play with groups where the night was a party and we ended up drafting. I know, it is not as cool as getting drunk and dancing to some EDM or country music while trying to get a chick drunk enough to go home with some other dude, but To each our own.

I've partied with the brother of the Emir of Dubai. I've wined and dined with European ambassadors in Tehran. I've been to society weddings in places like the Atlantis in Dubai and Royal palaces in Austria. I shagged my way around Marrakech. I own property in the top one percent of areas in the UK, have celebrities as neighbours and live a couple of streets away from the former Deputy Prime Minster. My day to day wristwatch is worth £2,500, my home cinema system worth £7,000. I wear neckties for work worth £90 a piece. Hell, my kitchen cutlery is worth £300. I earn 30 times an hour what Dayton earns. I could go on, but the key thing is that most of it comes from being self made. What have you offered? That you were a reasonably successful techie and danced on a piano in NYC? That you live ina middle class area? Well, big fucking deal. Have you even left the country?

Point is that, as @Stallion quite rightly pointed out, it's you who comes on here boasting and telling people how superior you are. You want to be arrogant? Fine. It's economies of scale. We can all be like that.
