For me, it's about whether I trust management to enforce the rules fairly and without bias. The only problem I had with K.'s rule update is "We trust the staff....". It's in our rules, yet it's not true for a big chunk of the membership.

So don't you find it odd that so many of the people arguing against gturner's ban were folks who have never had any reason to be concerned for their own ban? I mean, Stallion, Packard, Spaceturkey, Paladin and myself aren't exactly flooded with warnings.

I have to agree. If someone is actually arguing why they are racist it becomes a part of this discussion even if it is stupid. However just attacking people using racist terms takes a step into intimidation and who the bell wants to deal with blatant racist insults and no actual discussion. It goes beyond your standard insults, and you do not just get one racist asshole, they tend to come in groups to places that allow them. This is because a lot of them make an effort to find places they can bring racism too and scare off any new people who simply have tons of choices and do not need to muck around to find out it is just a pile of prolific posters. Even long term posters probably get sick of the racist comments over time and can go other places where the racists are booted.

What dinner said was that being black was something negative and he used it to shame a person. Calling someone a troll or an asshole says they are negative for being that way. There is nothing inherently negative about being black, and that crosses a line that people should not have to deal with.
