There is nothing whatsoever about Sulu being gay in the original Star Trek series. Chekov's "Russian pride" was largely played for laughs in episodes. And Gene Roddenberry was a truly Donald Trump level repulsive person so I'm not sure what point you're trying to make about his "enlightenment".
