I think abortion is one of those issues that will slowly die out given that opposition to it is mostly driven by religion. The dying of Christianity in western nations is beginning to happen in the US and so I think in several generation, possible sooner, it will no longer be a political issue and abortion will generally accepted by the majority.
And yet, popular attitudes on abortion remain flat, if not gradually shifting toward pro-Life. https://news.gallup.com/poll/191834/americans-attitudes-toward-abortion-unchanged.aspx
I did say "in several generations" didn't I? The mindset has to change, but the link between pro-life and religion is obvious and as religion slowly reduces over the decades the case for pro-life will erode.
He and I have an arrangement. Besides, I don't speak for him. I just use his followers' words to smite the likes of Dayton.
It's a chance we all take. Unless you've been to the other side and back, in which case you should write about your experiences.
Yes, given that science tells me the probability of there being a God is so infinitesimally small that the likelihood of my being judged is next to zero. I would also point out that I also am willing to take the risk that I might be judged by a lederhosen wearing, all powerful magical space potato.
As a reminder, I was raised Catholic. There's always an out-clause. Anyway, as I say, the Old Man and I have an arrangement. Unless I murder you or Dayton, I'm cool.
Science says nothing about God. Because it can't. Nor can it ever explain the origin of our existence. You should know better, Chuppie. The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao The name that can be named is not the eternal name
Nah, they did away with Purgatory in 2007. There's this little thing called "The Act of Perfect Contrition," i.e., a deathbed confession: "O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins, because of Thy just punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love..." It can be little more than "Hey, God? Sorry, dude, mmkay? We're cool, right?" It helps if there's a priest on hand, but that's not necessary. As I've said numerous times here, Catholicism is a religion of lawyers. "Follow the dictates of your own conscience....hey, if you're sorry, it's okay..." Always an out clause. Anyway, to my knowledge the most egregious sin I've ever committed was stealing a copy of the Manhattan Yellow Pages when I was in college, so I think I'll be all right.
If you don't actually mean it, if your heart is as corrupt as ever, why would God fall for your confession? He knows your confession is insincere. You haven't mitigated the risk of losing the bet.
Which is mind-numbing considering that not only is there nothing in the Bible that's anti-abortion, there are passages that are decidedly PRO-abortion. Christianity and anti-abortion go together like peanut butter and dill pickles. But so do Christianity and capitalism, and that didn't stop this goofball country from carving out a whole identity around that sick contradiction.
It boils down to Ephesians 5:22. That misogynist closeted Paul again, rewriting the message of Jesus to fit his own fear and loathing of womankind.
Given the timeline we're living in I expect RBG to fall over before 2020 and have a US state or two try their hand at passing a law outright banning abortion.
Between "little will change" and "chip away." I don't think the SCOTUS will outright overturn Roe v Wade, but they'll allow common sense () regulation of it.
I'd agree in principle but, given the multiplicity of finite human interpretations of what he meant, it's still up to the individual to decide. Any any Daytonesue dictat is by definition full of shit.
And in the meantime, Trump's Chump will almost certainly doom a generation of women to a fate in.like the one Ireland's just overturned after....what, 35 years? Their abortion ban is older than I am. You truly underestimate the level of power this "minority" really has, and with Trump writing blank checks, I'd take nothing for granted. Your attempt at being cute aside, there are already laws against abortion beyond 13 weeks, when over 90 percent of women get it done anyway. The others are all under medical advisement. I know you're far from stupid, so I'll just go with you being a Dennis Reynolds level sociopath who just is incapable of understanding the link to this and why every non-white straight passing male is assuming the worst for all of this.
I'm against it, but it's not a top priority. As much as I don't like the Roe v Wade decision, it should stand unless someone presents a really good argument to overturn it.
I don't care about abortion. I mean, it's probably easier to just use condoms or pull out or something, but whatever. I don't care about abortion, that holy book you people use, the Bibble or whatever it's called, doesn't say it's wrong, why is this an issue? Me asking him to stop and him not listening does not constitute permission. This is absolutely not true and I can prove it. With evidence. When have I ever used evidence for anything before? Checkmate atheists. This talk of judging confused me momentarily, so I looked into it. So you humans think when you die I review your lives and then pass judgement? On each and every one of you? Why would I do that? Sounds tedious. I mean, you know there have been about a hundred billion of you people so far, right? Look, it's pretty simple: Want to get into Heaven? Don't be a dick. I don't need to review someone's whole life and pass final judgement to know if someone is a dick. I just know. Want to be a dick? Go somewhere else. The afterlife is a big place, some parts don't care if you're a dick. Oh no, I'm not taking the blame here! Anyway, If this Roe v. Wade thing gets overturned or whatever and that results in abortion being outlawed, it'll be temporary.
See, I don't get this. I assume you don't think abortion is murder, because most people feel strongly enough about murder that they wouldn't say "well, I guess it should stay legal until someone presents a good reason," or consider it not a very big priority. But in that case ... what remaining reason is there to be against it?
