I'm just going to leave this right here: The one gun law in the United States is the 2nd Amendment. The key phrase is "shall not infringe." Look it up. If you throw a rock at a car and damage it, does anyone blame the rock? If you hit someone over the head with a tire iron, does anyone blame the tire iron? Follow that chain of logic to its logical conclusion. If you want to fix the epidemic in this country, look at the liberalization of the nation and the education system. Go back to saying the Pledge of Allegiance every morning, teach respect for the flag, let boys handle bullies (and each other) in the schoolyard without calling the police, let the school principal paddle malcontents, and quit trying to turn little boys into little girls. Quit trying to re-write history to paint this nation as the root of all evil on Earth. Let winners win, losers lose, and everyone learn and strive to be better. Raise the bar, instead of trying to make the lowest common denominator feel like winners. You SHOULD feel pride in success and you SHOULD feel shame for being sub-par. You can let America 'be America' without returning to slavery or the civil rights malcontent of the 1960's. It may surprise most of us, but the younger generation has already moved past us on that. If you want to squash racism and homophobia, quit calling everyone racist and homophobic. We can take what works and use it, while discarding that which is divisive and destructive. If we do this, we win and go forward. If we can't, we perish as a nation.
When anyone (politician or otherwise) says something like "we don't want your prayers", what they're saying (even if they don't realize it) is that they don't want your compassion, your good will, your willingness to be a good Samaritan, or all the best things that make you a member of the human race. Those people are not the people you want in public office, representing your interests.
The 2nd Amendment is not a law. Laws are passed within the confines of a constitution. There are very many gun laws. Most of your posts are nonsense. You should probably try reading a book, or the Constitution beyond the 2nd Amendment.
Yeah, bullshit. Compassion isn't real if it doesn't motivate to necessary action. "We don't want your prayers" means "stop lying". And as for the liberation of the country, it's only been a few weeks since you last expressly supported an armed revolution serving lobbied corporate interests against the Constitutional, democratically elected and legally ruling government. That's not what the 2nd Amendment is supposed to protect, and if it was, it would simply be wrong. So, again, stop lying.
Democrats, these are YOUR people. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/...Y3l5QW-_5mmlpvcW3bS_cOUNOa9c1KheEiKTz2Z6bXESo
99% of the people offering "prayers" don't even actually pray, you fucking imbecile. It's an empty phrase.
Meanwhile, literally the day after Trump half-heartedly said hate has no place in America, we had Mitch McConnell's campaign site tweeting a picture of a gravestone with his opponent's name on it, and a group of young guys at his farm event wearing Team Mitch T-shirts groping and choking a cardboard cutout of AOC. https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/en...-tweet-amy-mcgrath_n_5d4884dbe4b0ca604e36ac40 https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/en...ch-kentucky-picnic_n_5d48b3a5e4b01ae816c7416c
You call paddling kids and forcing them to recite the pledge "freedom"? You call being proud of militarily squashing other nations "success"? You call being ill, or less intelligent, or physically frail "sub par" and a cause for shame? Let me put this to you, we have rocks and tyre irons in the UK too. We don't make kids salute a flag. Yet somehow we manage to have far fewer murders with or without guns. You aren't a particularly liberal nation and surprisingly not all that libertarian when the numbers are computed. You already have way too much reverence for the military and the tools of war and you only enjoy success from a position of strength. Which, to be fair, could be said of any empire.
The OP resembles a dumb-shit rant from an Ohio politician. Does @Marso want to add gay marriage and "drag queen advocacy" to the list of unrelated things fueling mass shootings?
Me. And as cynical as Maher's comments may be, I can't fault the logic, or that it would be worth a recession to see Trump gone. Most likely it would be one of his own doing with the trade war nonsense.
the key phrase is actually "well regulated militia (itself, implying an organizational structure)", and doesn't mention firearms at all. of course, dating from a time when there was no standing military, it could be argued that both the regular military and National Guard(s) have made such a requirement obsolete.
Do you really believe that the Founding Fathers would be okay with forcing our children to take a loyalty oath every morning? That's some North Korea shit right there.
An aside, but it bugs me that people think "the founding fathers" would or did advocate a single position. It's quite possible that some of them would have, and some wouldn't.
oh good point! I'm sure they were not monolithic any more than the average citizens were back then, or are now.
They certainly weren't, being stubbornly opposed to each other on some of the central questions of the day. The eventual settlement was a painful compromise for many of them.
We are witnessing the decline of an Empire at this very moment. And it's not for the reasons you state. I take absolutely no joy in watching the American Empire fall, as you're going to drag a lot of us down with you. It's quite sad to see the dream and all that potential being flushed down the toilet.
Yes, this. Or perhaps: We are simply parts of that Empire, provinces about to be left over once the centre's collapsed. And I do mean centre.
I suppose if the analogy stretches far enough, Washington is kinda Byzantium, after London.Which would make you lot Romania.
This, absolutely this. When people say "the US isn't an Empire, it's just a nation", they miss the point. All empires are nations. No one renamed India "Britain", or likewise Britain "Rome", we're all living in some form as part of the American Empire, subordinate to the most powerful nation, our treaties, interactions, deals and alliances all reflect that power relationship.
It has, and it remains one. We may not use the terminology but tell me how many of our countries don't have US troops stationed there?
The U.S. does not control or attempt to control most of the countries it has troops in so that is utterly irrelevant.
In virtually every country the U.S. has or has had troops in, if their government decides it doesn't want U.S. troops there then they leave.
