After two decades of further destabilizing an already messed up region I don't see any path that leads to peace in this half of the century.
Trump doesn't pull out troops, he's a warmonger. Trump pulls out troops, he's inept/creating a diversion/apathetic/scamming & scheming. Granted whomever is HMIC their decisions (or lack of) could be interpreted & analyzed from different angles I guess. But ISIS is adapting to whatever the US/western powers decides. ISIS can't hold territory? Cool, they will just make life unlivable for the residents remaining. The sandbox will never be free of violence & turmoil so the US as a nation needs to accept that we can't change it or stay committed to "playing the game" if only to keep it contained to that region. You can't make everybody happy so protect your assets the best you can in all your decisions and stay flexible.
Throwing more bombs at them won't help. This is the one area I agree with trump. They don't need us killing them, they do it themselves. We do not need to run in and say look what we can do. This is also not something I blame on trump. This is the republican dynasty effects from the Bush family and their influence. The US is not the world police and we should not be involved. This is exactly what was going to happen when we give up on bombing for the sake of bombing Muslims.
The people who are criticizing him for this are the warmongers. Whether they are on the left or the right. The only reason I can see the left bringing it up would be to depress trump's base who want us to keep killing Muslims, and possibly bill Maher because he is a islamaphobic bigot.
I have to agree to an extent. This comes across distinctly as an attempt from within the more hawkish elements of the US infrastructure to pressure Trump into a more interventionist stance.

I'll take "People Who Don't Know History," for $100, Alex. The first accounts we have of the Kurds date from the Third Century BC in Anabasis by Xenophon. That's his recounting of a bunch of mercenaries being abandoned thousands of miles from Greece, and having to march through hostile territory to get back home. What were the Kurds doing back then? Fighting to have a homeland. Xenophon and his crew were just passing through, so they really couldn't stop to help, even though they shared a common enemy with the Kurds. Flash forward to Gulf War 1.0. President George HW Bush hints after the US pulls back that if folks rise up against Saddam, we'll support them. Guess who rises up? The Kurds. What do we do? Absolutely fucking nothing and Saddam promptly begins blowing them the fuck up. The Kurds are comparable to a Native American tribe which have been forced to live on a reservation that spans the US, Canada, and Mexico, and who'd like to at least be granted statehood by the US, if not recognized as an independent nation. This isn't like we allied ourselves with a country that promptly blew everything on hookers and blow. Given their history, the fact that there are any Kurds at all for us to betray once, let alone twice, is something of a miracle.
Are you being serious? We didn't beat ISIS in Syria, the Kurds did. The Kurds didn't come to us...we approached them. We lost 4 people there to their 11,000+. Additionally, they can fight for themselves. They're the best fighters in the region, and they'll make Turkey pay a high price if they start anything...but that's no reason to betray them like this after they bled for us. Finally, we don't "occupy" jack or shit in Syria. We have less than 1000 special forces there training people.
Just wait until those thousands of ISIS fighters being held by the Kurds escape because their guards are distracted by Turkish warplanes. That'll be fucking amazing. Oh, and apparently the Pentagon was blindsided by Trumps decision, but Turkey knew enough in advance to be able to begin attacking immediately. Think about that, Trump fans.
The Kurds kicked Daesh's ass and this is the thanks they get. If you are a loyal Trump supporter you are contorting yourself in a variety of ways to justify the complete 180 degree turn. Probably with heavy doses of Sean Hannity, Lou Dobbs, and Mark Levin.
