To be fair, last I heard, a lot of pretty smart people had the same hunch. It's possible (even likely) that there are a whole lot more people infected than we realize, who are mildly or non-symptomatic.

Of course, he's just parroting one of those pretty smart people while acting like he's the one who figured it out with that "I've got a hunch" bullshit.

Trump doesn't do hunches or listen to smart people. If a number needs to be big to be good, he'll double it. If it needs to be low to be good, he'll halve it. If no-one picks him up on this, he'll gradually inflate/deflate it further and further.

Good thing Trump sold them all those Javelin missiles that they're not allowed to use on the front lines.

1) Misleading if not downright false
2) Stupid

And FWIW, I read the methodology behind the 3.4% number. It's very first-pass, naïve. 2% is a better number. Most likely not "way under 1%", but 2% is still a better number than 3.4%.

Unfortunately "mild" symptoms are still as bad as the flu. Moderate in this case means "pneumonia". Severe means "needs hospitalization for pneumonia".

I don’t know which part to laugh at most. Mostly I want to cry knowing Trump has stopped bothering to appoint people smarter than him.

Reagan and Bush Sr used big boy words and didn't go out their way to shit over their advisors. They got away with their shit specifically because they acted like adults and let's be honest, what passed itself off for progressive in those days made no considerations for black or brown folks. No one cared about AIDS until good, white Christian children began dying from it from blood transfusions and it still took till the 90s to even do that.
