Even I knew about Crackerjacks, though we never thought of it as "popcorn". They had that already when I was a kid. Didn't know about the rest, though.
See, this is what I can't understand. Not: "Why would Trump try something so blatantly illegal?" but "Why would that guy rat on him for doing it? That's unfair!" I think the answers to both your questions are pretty obvious. He was recording the call because Trump had already officially declared him "an enemy of the people". You don't let someone like that talk to you for an hour without some kind of record to prove what was said. And why release it? Because Trump publicly lied about him on Twitter. So he set the record straight. Only blindly loyal Trump partisans would be more outraged by it being public than by Trump's guilt in trying such a thing.
It seems likely Raff recorded the call because it was not the first attempt by a Republican official to get him to change the vote tally. See: Lindsey Graham. And it's been reported he had plenty of time to set it up and confirm the legality, because Trump attempted to get him on the phone 18 times prior to the call he actually took. It's absolutely unprecedented that a sitting president call a state election official about his own election, let alone leaning on him and threatening him to change the tallies. Trump is a crook, period.
Crackerjacks. Wow. that takes me back. Is that company even still in business? As for Garrett's ..., they may sell enough of the other flavors to continue to make them as a business decision. But, nothing sells better than salted, buttered popcorn here in the states.
A quick google search shows Jenee to be correct. Buttered and salted is the preferred flavor. Best selling brand appears to be Orville Redenbacher. As for Crackerjack, yes, still around. Usually right next to Crunch & Munch on store shelves in my area.
The sad thing is that had Trump decided to not use his tiny hands to tweet lies, the tape would have never seen the light of day.
yes recording the call was smart. Releasing it to the public two days before the runoff not so smart and only invites suspicion & conflict in the GOP of which he claims to be a proud member. That said who knows what his long term plans are? The guy isn't stupid so he probably had a reason for his timing. Regardless it didn't affect the election in any discernable measure so no harm done in that regard, but it did seem like a risky move.
Only blindly biased Trump supporter haters wouldn't thoroughly read the other comments I posted about this. I never said Raff was "ratting on Trump" I was questioning THE TIMING of releasing this recording because it very well could have cost votes for the two Republican candidates in the Georgia runoff (we have a thread about that! Control of the Senate and all that trivial shit). Raff couldn't wait until after the runoff? Why the big rush? I'm not the only Republican who questioned raffs judgement.
Good. Anyone who is seriously stupid enough to vote Republican after the past four years needs to exercise their Second Amendment rights and eat a fucking bullet.
well color me shocked! I was born & raised in Chicagoland and they are very concerned about their obesity and making healthy food choices.
That's one of the best snack food inventions ever, though there are lots of companies who sell that mixture.
If someone falsely accused you of wrongdoing in public would you wait several days to set the record straight or would you want to get the truth out there as soon as possible?
Christina Bobb hosts a "news" program on OAN. That's objective, fact-based journalism right there. Yup. No bias whatsoever.
The recording was released within an hour of Trump lying about the phone call and attacking him. That's the answer to your timing question.
it's recorded. Why not wait a couple days? If anything Trump will keep on tweeting like a man possessed and and making himself look even more foolish. Raff knows the runoff is important, so why even risk anything that could be a distraction to voters? If Trump doesn't give a shit that's no reason for Raff not to give a shit, especially since Raff is the SOS of Georgia as well as a Republican.
Trump will be in office a year from now? The jokes on her, Biden won't even be in office a year from now!
So did Trump make his speech to his supporters protesting in DC? He was finally supposed to announce the arrests of his political enemies and Hollywood elites at 11:00 Eastern.
It would seem that Raff did this for political reasons but nobody knows for sure. Georgia Republicans in general are at odds over his motivation, but most agree that the timing makes no sense. Yes, everyone knows that Trump is feuding with Raff and other Republicans who are feuding with each other, etc etc. Once the runoff is certified more details will be forthcoming most likely.
This might be a tough couple of concepts for you to grasp, but let's give it a try anyhow. To some people, there are more important things than "my side winning this victory." There's the damage to one's own reputation that letting the lie persist does. There's the damage to our very democracy that would be done by people persisting in the false belief that the presidential election was rigged. There's the danger of people continuing to work to con people in that false belief. There's the possibility that Trump actually broke state and federal law in his phone call and the danger to the principle that no man is above the law. Because he released the audio, it's just possible that some will wake up and smell the fascism and the insanity. I haven't -- and won't -- listen to the entire call, but judging from the excerpts, it seems indefensible.
One of the defining concepts of Trumpistas is an inability to see anyone else's motives in any light but their own.
MSNBC is carrying their regular programming while putting Trump's speech to the White Trash at the White House in a corner box with no sound or captions. "Your lips move, but I can't hear what you're saying."
