I'd bet my left kidney that Elon's aggressive "permaban anyone impersonating someone else" policy only applies to people impersonating him and his friends, and won't apply to people impersonating politicians that offend him. Those blue ticks aren't really for the benefit of the account holder, but for the people reading those tweets.

Elon’s new rules looks like the old rules set up by Jack Dorsey. “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss, we won’t get fooled again.” Hopefully Twitter just goes up in flames. I think that would be for the best.

has anyone brought up the report that Elon's knee-jerk "pay $8 for Twitter Blue and see half as many ads" comment means he'd actually LOSE money on the subscriptions? "Half the ad revenue" per person amounts to giving up $6 on each - BEFORE he pays what they own Google and Apple per head (I don't know what this is about) which when figured in - $8 won't break even, let alone earn revenue

I've seen that being thrown around and would love to see a source on the numbers. That's about 40c a day in ad revenue per user, which seems way out of line with Twitters reported 2021 ad revenue.

I’ve said it before but Musk fundamentally doesn’t understand his product.

See Right Wing Twitter like Right Wingers in general HATE knowledge and expertise. So when one of them would claim something stupid and an expert in the subject would correct them and lay down facts everyone would side with the expert and it hurt their little feelings. Since it couldn’t be that they were wrong and that is why people disagreed with them it must have been the Blue Checkmark (the PhD in X and Chair of Y, author of Z in the bio isn’t as visual and they are very visual) that made everyone side with the expert.

As they do they used their hurt and anger to create an enemy. Blue Checkmark Twitter. Memes were created. Rants spewed. The Fart Sniffers stomping on the Little Guy, etc etc.

Elmo got sucked into the Right Wing Echo Chamber and bought into that the Blue Checkmark was just a status symbol for elites.

But that simply isn’t what they are. People didn’t believe the geneticists over Billy BoB BECAUSE the geneticist’s Blue Checkmark. They believed him because of the ‘PhD in X and Chair of Y, author of Z’ in their bio which the checkmark just verified.

But Elmo doesn’t understand, he’s too sucked into the Right Fever Swamp so thus we have the flailing about with the Blue Checkmark.
