Truth social stock dropped 14% within hours of it opening trading. However, it's a GREAT way to launder money from his corrupt dictator buddies overseas.

As to Trump himself, he's in court on a hearing about the delay in the hush money case in NYC. Judge Merchan is clearly already pissed at the defenses delaying tactics, as a trove of documents pursuant to the case dropped last week, no doubt held up by one of Trump's buddies at SDNY.

Adam Klasfield is live tweeting the hearing if anyone is interested:

This court is one of the furthest left in the country. No, this isn't rich old men appointed by other rich old men. This is the Progressive dream team of judicial appointees. The first black woman head of the appellate court. Guyanese and Indian immigrants. The only white person is on the board of the Women's Bar Association. A hispanic/native American judge known for her advocacy for native americans.

    WHAT. THE. FUCK.

He's ultimately likely to have to pay up but that's months and months away now. He'll have time to get his money out of the Truth Social merger and put up the 58% reduced bond.

It's like they want to bend over to prove they are being fair, not understanding that's just weakness to the fascist right and emboldens them to more evil.

5/5 judges were Dem appointees. 4/5 were non-white.

This isn’t the 5th Circus but still, for no reason at all (or at least not a reason thought worth writing down) they decided to cut the bond by 60%.

I’m sure this 60% haircut will apply to everyone at Rikers who couldn’t post bond and so is detained while awaiting trial.

Democrats are criminals and I'm not cheering for anyone, I'm laughing at corrupt judges and district attorneys getting smacked down.

This is not the same sort of bond. This is a civil case, not criminal and orange dumbass is not going to jail, or even unable to appeal, if he does not post the bond. It just means NY could start seizing his properties right now because of the judgment.

They were going to collapse it, and I am confident the NY AG is on top of watching in case he starts shifting assets so she can come back in later to seize them.

I am not blaming NY for something that should never have been a problem because Garland and Biden worked together to keep the criminal trials from happening before the next election.

George Conway comments that in one sense, James now has a guarantee (unless he wins the appeal which no one thinks he will) of collecting at least half of the initial judgement (sans the interest) without lifting a finger (because the process of taking his shit is a time consuming and expensive process) - and if he can't post this one he has no recourse and she's no worse off than if the bond hadn't been reduced.

I really feel like George Conway is a voice of sanity among the various pundits out there. He has no use for Trump, but he's managed to keep an even temper and analyze what's going on dispassionately. :spock:

Trump went on Truth Social and attacked Judge Merchan's daughter this morning. This is for the criminal hush money trial starting on the 15th of April.

The Judge was not having it. He laid down a gag order on Trump. We'll see what happens when Trump violates it, but I don't think Merchan is going to be lenient.

And he responded by yet another request for a delay on the trial date after the deadline for submissions by telling Trump's lawyers that he'll hit them with criminal contempt charges if they continue to flaunt his orders.

then he went after the daughter again today.

Not likely. The gag order didn’t include the judge or his family.

I am pretty sure I have read a coupkle of articles about this that says O2C is correct. Dumbfuck orange man will use whatever technical legality he can to spout abuse and threaten people, and the judge seemed to have left their family open for this attack. If that is the case the judge did it to themselves because the moment you had gotten Orange Poorleone in your court you should be prepared for him to use any and every door you leave open against you like the rabid crapweasel he is.

However, seeing as his daughter seems to be social media attention whore who likes to skewer Trump, this might have been a way to get her some more followers and fame. I would not put that out of the realm of possibilities at this point.

More likely, the judge knows Trump's historical strategy of trying to fight against gag orders and has intentionally kept it to the bare minimum needed for the integrity of the case.

Trump and his lawyers are baiting, trying to get something they can call overreach.

Jeff Clark told a court that, when acting head of the DoJ, he was acting as Donald Trump's attorney.

Well, he tried to claim attorney-client privilege and then said when asked that he was representing Trump as POTUS and sole head of the Executive Branch.

The head of the DoJ represents the United States of America, not the President.

At least his attorney had the sense at this point to step in and get him to plead the Fifth on any further questions on that topic.

No good legal reason exists to delay Donald Trump’s January 6 trial any further.

The Public Has a Right to Trump's Speedy Trial - The Atlantic

The Supreme Court has shamed itself by being a party to this, when the sole issue before the Court is presidential immunity. By contrast, Special Counsel Jack Smith has both law and policy on his side in seeking a prompt determination on immunity and a speedy trial soon thereafter. Yet the Court has ignored all that.

The Supreme Court’s lollygagging is reflected in its scheduling the immunity case for a leisurely April 25 hearing. It’s too late to do anything about that now, but the Court has an opportunity to correct course following oral argument. The justices should press Trump’s counsel on what possible legitimate reason he has to oppose a speedy resolution of the appeal. And then they should rule with dispatch because there is still time, albeit barely, to vindicate the public’s right to a speedy trial.

The right a speedy trial doesn’t belong to the government, it’s for the defendant. Just so we are clear, the constitution and the bill of rights in particular is to protect the rights of the people, not the government. A lot of people seem to either not know that or have forgotten that.

Never let it be said that I will not give credit where credit is due:

The Sixth Amendment does only speak to the right of the accused to a speedy trial and the Constitution is generally about delineating rights of individuals versus the government.

That said, it is not necessarily true that the government does not enjoy some level of right to a speedy trial despite it not being explicit in the Constitution. I cannot fathom that a defendant out on bail could indefinitely and intentionally delay trial and a court be stuck saying "Our hands are tied. The defendant wants a delay and you have no right to proceed to a speedier trial."

That’s what judges are for and in this case they allowed the delay. If the prosecution can delay then it’s only fair for the defendant to at least have one delay. But @Diacanu thinks it’s dumb that the constitution protects our rights.
