I love a little freshly roasted Sooner in the evening. Man, Jeff Capel cracks my shit up. Mouthing "gosh darnit" under that frustrated smile. It's bedlam, flow. We have to make it exciting. It seems to be a rule. Then again, we always have to make it exciting if we aren't getting creamed by 30 on the road.
70-68 Texas Tech over Texas A&M in Lubbock. The Aggies must be sick. They've handed the Big 12 lead right back to Kansas, which was murdering Baylor last I checked.
Tech with back to back wins of Kansas and A&M. The Ags played incredibly sloppy in the first half. Tech made them pay.
A&M outlasted them. They should have. A&M has more talent. OU's shown marked improvement lately. Capel's bringing them around, plus he's already got a sharp recruiting class signed. He's having to put up with the crap Kelvin left over this season.
Baylor up on Texas, partway through the second half. [action=evenflow]draws runes on the floor, sacrifices a chicken and calls up the ancient Baptist demons to help the Bears pull this one out...[/action]
Tech has crashed hard back down to Earth with that loss to Mizzou today. Now I think they should still be ranked, but probably will be lucky to get past 24.
Sorry Bears. That's the way it goes. Thank Christ someone woke up the Cowboys during the second half, but Jameson is seriously sucking tonight. They probably all weigh less with the ass chewing Sean gave them at half time in the locker room.
62-50. I'll take it, (thank the maker for lack of excitement in the waning minutes) but the boys had better get a bigger fire going underneath themselves. They're looking seriously sluggish lately. Finally, one of the commentators made fun of Tyler Hatch's hair like I always do. Does he know the hair dryer has a "low" setting?
Pat Forde's columns are always good, this week he take's on the centercourt logos of college basketball. No love for A&M, I really like the Aggies floor, but still a funny column. I won't paste it, since it provides links to pics of every floor described. Check out Boise State's monstrosity.
It was an interesting day. Kansas State won at Texas. K State is now 6-2 in the Big 12, 17-6 overall. North Carolina State, with first year coach Sidney Lowe, beat North Carolina for the first time since 2003. Sidney Lowe played point guard for NC State, when they beat Phi Slamma Jamma, the Houston team with Akim Olaijawon and Clyde Drexler, for the National Championship. Reid Geddes, who played for Houston in that game, is announcing the OU game right now.
I gotta tell ya, I rushed my backyard after that final shot. If any of you are in or near Texas and heard a loud whoop, that was me.
I've been enjoying him for 3 years now. I'll be sad to see him go, but he's earned everything and more. He's a true product of BCG's coaching. 100x's the player he was just 2 years ago. Seriously though, how clutch can one guy be? The whole game Vitale keeps talking about how good Acie is in the last 5 minutes. Then he delivers like the game had a script.
Florida had a rather ho hum 94-78 victory over Tennessee. The frontcourt tandem of Horford and Noah is the best in the country. I have yet to see another team this year with big men as good or as mobile. The only negative was from a coaching standpoint. The starters were still in with under two minutes to go and Corey Brewer nearly ended his season by going for an ill advised block. Looks like his knee is fine but it's just silly to risk your starters when you're up 15.
