Beanie is out for the USC game... A shame, really, because you won't get to see the best of both teams. If SC wins, it will be excused by that. I'm wondering if Tressel is sandbagging knowing that if keeps expectations low and runs the table afterwards he's got a better chance of getting in the championship game - just like last year. That's one damn smart man. As it is, I would expect USC to roll, unless Sanchez is a one game wonder and turns the ball over. The knock on him is he takes too many chances, being used to getting away with it because of his athleticism. I say USC 30, OSU 17. USC's got the intangibles - home field, coming off of a bye week, and not having to worry about their best player this time around. On a neutral field with both teams healthy, it would be a toss up.
As fate would have it again, I'm going to miss the whole f'n game riding United Airlines from coast to fucking coast.
Ohio State vs. Southern Cal. If only they could both lose. Since that's not possible, I guess the best case scenario is that one of them gets humiliated. Probably Ohio State.
Wow, Maryland looked awesome in taking apart Cal - after losing to middle tennessee state the week before! And Purdue is hammering Oregon right now. Going to have to take a lot of flack about the PAC-10 being over rated from my coworkers. But all will be well if USC annihilates OSU.
Georgia/SC is looking pretty damn good! Goes to show you that you never have an off week in the SEC. Flipping back and forth between that and the Techs. Pulling for Ga Tech simply b/c of the Wreck Tech Rivalry. Playing pretty damn sloppy if ya ask me.
Maryland over Cal---w00t! But Maryland almost blew it, as usual. The score wasn't as close as the 35-27 score indicated. What is wrong with Navy? They were beaten...by Duke?
:/ That didn't look good. He was moving his extremities, but anytime you get strapped to the board and rolled off the field isn't cool.
Well, the schedule sure is breaking USC's way to get to the title game. As always for a good team, it all comes down to injuries. Last years team I think would have won it if they hadn't lost 20 players at various times, including everyone on the offensive line at one point or the other. But Oklahoma and Missou are looking great, and Georgia has tons of talent. Looks to be another exciting year!
Yes, but Oklahoma can't do anything. If nothing else, over the past 8 years we have found this to be self-evident.
USC will once again find itself in the BCS title game for two reasons: 1. They are once again the darlings of the sports media, the glam Hollywood team they want to promote instead of the boring teams from the flyover states. 2. Weak Pac-10 schedule And one other thing can be counted on - no matter how overrated Georgia continues to look, the ESPN talking heads will continue to inform us a billion times a week that the SEC is the toughest conference in America and that the Bulldogs are just so super special awesome.
It looks like Auburn's new offense isn't worth a damn. I'm not looking forward to seeing it up against a good team.
I'm not writing it off yet. This is something totally new for us, and it's gonna take a while to get the hang of it. At least we've got our D to keep us in the game.
I think it's funny how ESPN is to blame for everything. And how can they be all about big Hollywood teams, not caring about flyover country, and yet be all about the SEC. And for the record, the SEC is the toughest conference.
It's hard to argue that one. The Big 12 is close this year. Of course, the SEC has a losing record against the PAC-10, who then turn around and get bitchslapped by the WAC.
You're not allowed to poke holes in my theory. I disagree, the Big 12 is year in and year out the toughest conference in America. ESPN bangs the drums for the SEC the same way they do for the ACC in basketball.
The Big 12 doesn't seem to know how to win out of conference games. And I mean Bowl Games, not the weak season openers.
Yet strangely have a loosing record in BCS games, behind the SEC, PAC-10, and the Big East. The funny thing about the SEC is only half their teams have been represented in BCS play, 6 of 12. PAC-10 has 7 of 10, Big-10 even has a higher percentage. They may be a deep conference, but the same few teams keep winning it year in and year out.
I'd say part of that is b/c we are such a deep conference, that we play tougher teams year in year out. I'm not sure about this week, but last 4 of the top ten ranked teams were in the SEC. Our mid level teams have to go against that week after week, and thus have shittier records than they deserve. And I expect SC to step up in the next couple years, and although I think Nick Saban is overestimated (under him we beat LSU more than they beat us, and Bama is no LSU) he should pull them out of their funk.
Oklahoma <> The Big 12. One Big 12 team can't win a bowl game. One. The others seem to do fine, generally speaking.
I hope the Dawgs have gotten all that crap out of their system cuz if they play too many other teams in the SEC like that they're going to be home crying for the New Year. USC had its one overrated game for the year so I guess they're going for the championship...
