I think a ditto is in order here... IMO, the NCAA hasn't got the stones to suspend the game's hottest player right before the championship game. They'd rather wait until after he's won the SEC, the national championship, the Heisman, and been in the NFL a year or so before they come to the stunning conclusion that a son actually does talk to his dad about stuff. By then, no one will care about this "old news" anymore.
Auburn better be careful, then. The Reggie Bush scandal cost SC a coach and set the program on its ear for a good five years.
True, but I'm thinking bigger picture than just the affected school. If Newton's suspended now, while the SEC championship game gets to be more interesting, the SEC winds up sending less than their best to a BCS bowl making it much less interesting. Less interest = fewer viewers = less money. Further, a scandal would probably reduce overall interest in college football among casual viewers of the bowl games. Delaying a serious decision means that the worst that happens is that Auburn itself gets hurt (maybe) a few years down the road. All just IMO. Of course, to be fair to Auburn and Newton, suspending him pending an investigation is practically pronouncing him guilty - or so they'll say. But that sort of thing is done all the time in other professions.
Oregon State would be perfectly happy if they denied Oregon the National Championship during Civil War, according to a Portland Tribune article. Now, who here's surprised by this?
I'm not. If I were OSU I'd want to kick their asses and deny them as well. If I could spoil a national championship for UCLA I'd do it without a second thought. I HATE those fuckers. Although only a scrotum hair less than I hate Notre Dame.
Why don't they just get rid of any pretense of student atheletes, get rid of scholarships, and just let the NFL pick up the tab for the football programs? The NCAA is just the minor leagues of football anyways and everyone knows it. There won't be any problems then when a college star gets caught talking to boosters, or his dad gets a farm or whatever.
I saw on my facebook feed that the OU tranny cheerleader made another appearance tonight. Wow. OU can't even get cheerleading right.
Oregon vs. Auburn. That is all. Ironically, green and yellow were the colors of my first high school (and had the same fight song as Oregon!), and blue and orange were the colors of the high school I graduated from.
Well... Go Ducks, if they lose and TCU wins their bowl game then TCU is the national champion because they didn't pay their players... Or at least they didn't get caught. Fuck auburn and that bullshit double standard.
Someone explain to me how Dez Bryant is suspended for lying to the NCAA about supposed improper contact with an agent, and Cam Newton suffers no ill effects for apparently being shopped around by his father...
How much time you got, buddy? 1. TCU in the championship game is undesirable to the NCAA 2. Other powerful teams in the SEC are nervous because they also acted inappropriately with regards to the Cecil Newton situation. The SEC is a honey hole for the NCAA, so they protect their baby. 3. Cam Newton is incredible and people want to watch him play. 4. The NCAA knows that they can always have "new evidence" come to light after the NC is done and settled and Cam Newton is safely in the NFL. Think Reggie Bush.
Oh I get it, I'm just being contrary. Supposedly OSU has made a deal with Nike for Oregon style uniform shenanigans, so go cks.
Well, if there is one good thing about this, Mr. Newton won't be taking home the hardware next weekend.
Shouldn't he though? The Heisman is for on field performance. Who cares if he got paid or tried to get paid? Bush never should have given his trophy up.
Cam was found to have done no wrong, so why no Heisman? We can overlook cheating to keep TCU out of the National Championship but not for an award?
He has controversy surrounding him. After the Reggie Bush situation, the Heisman folks may want someone who has no such track record. I simply refuse to believe that Newton had absolutely no idea whatsoever that his dad was shopping him around. Besides, doesn't Cam have baggage from stealing computers when he was in junior college? I'm not sure how much character and off-field conduct factor into the voting, but if Cam has all of these issues revolving around him now, what may surface later? Do the Heisman folks really want to put themselves into a position where they have to ask for their trophy back twice? For that reason alone, they may steer clear of Newton, just to be safe. Besides, I just plain hate all SEC teams.
Hey i bought my wife an ipad she didnt know about it til i gave it to her. emphasis on wife..( husband + wife = talk alot) and no he BOUGHT a stolen laptop while at florida. ( get it right :-) ) He's the Best Player in the Country denying him the trophy would be dumb. but all in all Auburn will win the national championship on field.. Don't hate because SEC has won 8 soon to be 9 national championships in the past 20 years..
my dad got 25K in a settlement and didn't tell me about it until after he nearly spent it all. reports say cam wanted to go to MSU but his dad wanted him to go to Auburn. Since supposely there wasn't a deal made at MSU his dad wanted him to go to Auburn being it was closer to home.
CFT 2010, Coaching Carousel edition... Miami? Rumors of Pelini bolting Nebraska, even rumors of Tuberville leaving Tech, but you'll never get that lucky Tex. Florida? Will Peterson at Boise finally make the move? Pitt? I know Oklahoma State's offensive coordinator Michael Bolton has interviewed. Texas? Who will revive the offense and save Mack's legacy? What other jobs are open? I assume Richt will stay at Georgia, where will Mike Leach end up?
