Do you hear that? It's coming... Anticipation builds across the land as we look to extinguish the black marks that have been laid upon our beloved sport lately. The world has shifted, conferences realigned. Somehow Missouri moved south, and West Virginia moved west, and the Aggies just moved on. Change greets every season, but this feels different, even the BCS is rumored to be on borrowed time. Baby Stoops has come, the Honey Badger has been cast out, the Trojans are off probation, but most exciting of all, the Pirate has returned. The Green Room's resurrection is at hand, for it's... The 2012 College Football Thread!!! *Hat tip to Techman, Go Big Red
Blah... I've spent the last 180 days in the deepest pits of Hell. I haven't been able to keep up with anything. Please, someone, fill me in.
This year it looks like I'll have a 2nd team to route for... If there is time between all the wins Tech is expected to have this season... (Notice there is only one picture above) I may have to settle for remembering the glory of seasons past... Or is this all just a horrible nightmare that I dreamed in my head?
I'll have a team up here to root for, which will be nice (oddly enough it is these threads that badgered me into becoming a Leach fan years ago). Pretty excited about Auburn. Last year was supposed to be a bad and it was really bad, but we kinda lucked out and made it only below average. I don't expect to win the title this year, and the SEC West is looking to be a beast again, but you never know. I just hope we have a defense this year. 1 LSU (18) 2 Alabama (20) 3 USC (19) 4 Oklahoma 5 Oregon 6 Georgia 7 Florida State 8 Michigan 9 South Carolina 10 Arkansas I am shocked, SHOCKED to see half the top ten is SEC. Wonder if this will be the third year in a row that the SEC has one Division (West) that has more top 10 finishers than any other Conference. But I guess that isn't really apples to apples, isn't the SEC West larger than the Big XII these days?
So Mizzou plays #6 in week 2, and #9 in week 4, instead of our usual 4 patsies in a row before Conference play? Swell. If they're better than 2-2 after week 4, that'll be a good thing. But I have my doubts...
Also, will Oregon State put up a fight and be worth keeping an eye out, or will they just be craptastic again like last year? The Beavers aren't even ranked at the moment. Methinks, honestly, they've got a long road ahead of them. With that all said, let's do a round of predictions! Oregon Ducks: vs. Arkansas State -- Ducks vs. Fresno State -- Ducks vs. Tennessee Tech -- Ducks vs. Arizona -- Ducks @ Washington State -- Ducks vs. Washington -- Ducks @ Arizona State -- Ducks vs. Colorado -- Ducks @ USC -- USC @ California -- Cal vs. Stanford -- Ducks @ Oregon State -- Ducks The test will be USC and Cal, I think. USC beat them last year, and this year USC's off probation, allowing them to play for keeps. Cal gave the Ducks the big scare two years back, so the potential is there. Oregon State vs. Nicholl's State -- Beavers vs. Wisconsin -- Wisconsin @ UCLA -- UCLA @ Arizona -- Beavers vs. Washington State -- Beavers @ Brigham Young -- BYU vs. Utah -- Utah @ Washington -- Beavers vs. Arizona State -- Beavers @ Stanford -- Stanford vs. California -- Cal vs. Oregon -- Ducks Interestingly enough, Oregon State's largely playing a very similar non-conference lineup as last year, outside of the opener. Outside of Arizona State, I think the Beavers are going to have results similar to last year.
I would be wary of Washington State starting this year. They recently acquired one of the best coaches in the nation.
Oregon State vs. Nicholl's State has been postponed, due to Isaac. OSU's new season opener will be against Wisconsin next week, which, if my prediction holds, the Beavs will be trashed.
Well, I don't really watch much football, but I suppose I should show some support for my college team. But I really wish I could block any and all college football related posts from my facebook feed. That's all people have been posting about for days. Oh well. Go team go.
Fuck cable companies. Fuck them right in the ear! Why the hell do I have to spend 10 minutes trying to find a work around their damn content controls? I'M FUCKING WATCHING THE COMMERCIALS!
It took a while to find the best stream but I finally hit the mother lode. If anyone wants to know how to get most games in better than decent quality, hit me up via PM.
I love Spurrier commented on how 'lucky' they got with the dropped ball after the game to rub it in a little bit. Hell of a coach, always been a dick.
Games of note today? My Cowboys open against some junior high team, and most all the other interesting games are tonight.
Dragged it out of bed early to watch Navy-ND (in Erie, no less). I'm starting to think I shoulda stayed in bed. SC vs Hawaii later today, but that should be a yawner by all rights.
SC fan, flipped between SC and Alabama games last night. SC looked great (first play a 75 yard TD), but at times was inconsistent. Alabama looked damn near invincible, against a much higher quality opponent. I have a hard time seeing why SC is the preseason #1. They are top 10 certainly, top 5 probably, but you have Lane Kiffin at Coach and only an average defensive line. This team is going to have to grow up a lot to be able to face the SEC in the title game, assuming they get there, which is no safe assumption. I'd say they'll go 11-1 and get to the Rose. 'Bama should be #1, and probably will be after the votes are in. Hell, they shouldn't even rank the teams until week 6.
