If the MONEY is right I think Sabin will go, there HAS to be a reason his contract extension just sits on his desk unsigned. Could it be the 10 MILLION a year Texas is offering him? Hell yes. I just think they have to keep it quiet til after the Bowls are over.
Anyone else here watch any of the FCS Championship? When I was a truck driver (About 10 years ago) I used to haul lumber out of Fargo, ND. I started watching ND State games, when I was there. They are an exciting team to watch. I know it's not the BCS, but they have a playoff system so there is no doubt WHO the best team is. ND State has won 3 of the last 4.. GO BISON..
Even if he doesn't WANT to jump to Texas, he'd be a fool to sign the Alabama extension before the Longhorns submit their offer. His Alabama extension has been reported to average $7M per year for 8 years or so. Texas is widely speculated to be ready to offer $10M per year for 10 year. Do the math...it's simple negotiating leverage.
That may just happen yet. Saban signs Bama contract. https://twitter.com/AlabamaFTBL/statuses/411708429921968130
At the UT football banquet tonight, Mack and the UT AD both talked like he's going to stick around. A sports director friend of mine put this on his Facebook tonight: "One report tonight claims that Mack Brown told UT recruits, 'Two days ago I was going to quit. Now I'm not. Come to Texas.'"
I can never prove it, and I may be wrong, but I think Mack and the University played chicken. He's going to make them fire him. He's already pulled a Bobby Bowden and stayed past his prime. He's working on a Joe Patrino and staying past his usefulness. If Mack had resigned, Nick would be in Austin right now. But, the University has no intention of firing him (right now), so Nick took Bama's offer.
A good article in today's paper by my favorite sports columnist suggests that Brown hasn't been the same since Alabama knocked Colt McCoy out of the championship game a few years ago. "...McCoy took the hit. And Brown still feels it."
As Elwood has posted above, Mack Brown will resign as head football coach at Texas, after they play Oregon in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 30. I wonder if they have a new coach lined up. Any new coach would most likely be coaching in a bowl game, but it would be difficult to keep it a secret.
The press release says that Mack will coach the bowl game. So, they'll have from the end of bowl season to the start of recruiting season to announce a coach.
This way they can "win one more for Mack". Plus, the school has to get the replacement in place ASAP.
