I don't watch the show, but from what I've heard the Duck Dynasty crew are very humble, friendly down-to-earth people that very much represent the picture of true modern Southern gentlemen. Funny that Duck Dynasty guy (beard and all) makes more from one episode than the hotel dude does in a fucking year. Plus the DD guy doesn't pay 3,000 a month to share a shoe-box apartment with an immigrant taxi driver - and his family. :rotfl:

[?=In all fairness, this is what Jase Robertson usually looks like.][IMG]

I enjoy watching the show and, as a beard wearing man myself (think Jonathan Frakes, not the Robertson family) the term "facial profiling" just owns me.[/?]

Initially I avoided the show but after being hounded I finally watched a few episodes and am hooked. It is a great clean cut show. Mom is in rehab relearning how to walk and I now spend time with her watching the show and snippets on my tablet. She is hooked too.

This just proves that you, along with the rest of the public, are ignorant of how much money these so-called "reality show stars" make. While I'm sure it's more than what they make crafting duck calls, reality TV shows are notorious for paying their "talent" pennies while the production company and the networks rake in the profits. I have friends currently starring on some moderately successful TV shows, and they don't make shit. In fact, I know several people who've done these shows that lost their homes or had to file for bankruptcy because they weren't paid, and when they were it was peanuts.

So don't make the mistake of thinking the stars of Duck Dynasty are laughing their way to the bank. You probably make more in a year than they do.

The guys in Duck Dynasty own a multi-million dollar business.

The guy in this story, Jase Robertson's worth from what I've read is in the neighborhood of about $10 million dollars.

So they are using the show for fame. They're certainly not being paid much by the network.

So you think that duck dynasty people make the same pittance that your friends make shooting fake ghost shows? You realize the duck Dynasty is one if the most popular show on television right now right, and that has been for a couple seasons?

    Yay.

And the network is eating up all the profits. The Duck Dynasty stars are not being paid that much. A&E is notoriously cheap. Remember how they cut the budgets for both Walking Dead and Mad Men, their two biggest hit shows? It means bigger profits for them.

Ghost Hunters is SyFy's biggest show. It's been on 8 seasons and the damn thing won't die (which I think it should since they were caught faking shit). But those guys don't make any money off of it. Instead their money comes from their personal appearances and lectures, book sales, and anything else they can do to market themselves. As cheap as A&E is, SyFy is much worse.

I imagine Duck Dynasty stars are making considerably more than most shows stars due to the programs immense popularity.

I wonder how many people know that the huge "ZZ Top" beards that the sons wear are just for show. They adopted them because their father (who founded both Duck Commander and Buck Commander) became well known for his long beard in the DVDs that his company sells.

Willie Robertson, the CEO of Duck Commander looked more like a California surfer just a few years ago.

Yep - merchandising. Duck Dynasty hats, shirts, lunch boxes, you name it. I'm sure they get some of that at least.

So, individually, it's $10,000 an episode. Not really all that much.

Meh. I don't watch the show, but apparently the people featured in it are pretty good folk.

At least they aren't getting a hundred grand per episode or whatever the Jersey Whores people were getting.

Those people all need to be taken out and shot. :sniper:

Weeds lasted at least 3 seasons longer than it should have. It's cancellation was more like a mercy killing.

Breaking Bad is apparently run by people who know when to quit while they're ahead.

For 14 episodes? To them it's chump change. For me, I'd do it in a NY minute.

I watched season five and that was about it for me. The show shoud've been shot in the back of the head Old Yeller style once Nancy burned the house down.

I think this whole idea of running a series for years and years is something that is exclusive to America. Every other country has show that run for a pre-defined length, there's a clear beginning, middle and end. There are so man concepts I've seen on TV that I had to wonder how the fuck could they possibly run this for years. "Glee" is the most prominent example I can think of , and frankly having the male lead croak from drugs is the only reason anyone is even going to tune in on the back of that last season.

Another example: Star Trek Voyager and Enterprise--the apathy for both shows shone through when almost everyone involved knew they'd at at least get enough episodes for a syndication package.

The list goes on an on, but I'm thankful for online outlets such as Netflix so that creators will be less beholden to network sponsors and able to actually create a complete story--whether that story involves ten episodes or 100.

I dunno about that. If this was a traditional show there is no way in hell that the producers would have the balls to make a show like this. They would say it's unrealistic and no one would watch it. This one has to be a (partially scripted) reality TV show.
