What is the criteria for a place to jump off when Wordforge finally goes the way of the dodo? Here's my list: 1. Complete freedom of speech, both in thread bodies and titles. Nobody is guaranteed to not be offended in any way whatsoever. 2. A nice ratio of righties and lefties (and no, I don't mean 30:1). An echo chamber isn't fun, it's a circle jerk. If there are no bedwetting liberals around to make cry, it would be boring as hell. 3. Troll, troll, troll! No restrictions whatsoever on trolling. 4. A few safe zones. I do like how there are a couple of 'other' forums that are free from the usual firefights, especially in matters of entertainment, because politics all the time sucks and I don't want to hear jack shit about politics when I'm discussing music or cars or whatever. 5. Pussy! Not in the main forum obviously, but a White Room would be a nice distraction. 6. Rep? Optional, but it would be nice to have the game back and start it over from the beginning. No crazy ratios or whatever. We still have Stalker Tex's list of phrases for different amounts that we could give them and make it fun again. 7. vBulletin. Definitely. There is no other game in town. I've seen some boards that look like they're about 12 years behind the times. Fenderforum.com for example. Fucking horrible. 8. No restrictions on inline images. This comes to mind from something at TBBS. As with everything else there, the rule is only applied to certain people. I posted a few images in a post once and they were edited out. Everyone else posted images to troll me and they were left alone. We'll call this the sandbagger option. I'm going to look around and see what's out there. If anybody else sees anything that looks promising, this is the place to put it.
So, Sokarrrgh wants a forum full of people like himself.... Hmmm a forum completely populated by shitheads and arseholes... hmmmmm ......
When I left for a year or so it wasn't due to any lack of freedom, just declining discussion and lack of topics I am interested in (same reason even after coming back I am posting less). WF wasn't replaced by a forum, but instead a couple of Blogs that I spent more time at. http://slog.thestranger.com/ www.publicola.com www.seattletransitblog.com http://seattlebubble.com/blog/
The criterion is (or the criteria are) for the dodos to cough up the bucks and start their own board. Bye!
Killing yourself with a butter knife would be more entertaining and less painful than public transit blogs.
After spending a summer living in Germany, and seeing what is possible in terms of mobility with a good transit system, I'm learning about what makes a system 'work' and how to get it implimented where I live. Some might find it boring, but as transit and land use are so intertwined, day day few local government decisions have as big an impact on your life as it.
And less than five minutes after I post this, a campaign I've been working on gets put on the front page of the Stranger. http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/seattle-subway/Content?oid=13321295
Lonaf. PHPbb3, not vBulletin, but it's comparable. However, you have to ease yourself in and initially leave your trolling in NHB until you're established, because the board leans liberal. Does have a White Room. Quiet board, though. Could try REFCL, which even has Rep.
Well, Sokar, if you're looking for liberals to troll, there's no better place than www.whygodwhy.org--which was a spin-off board of a spin-off of the now defunct Godawful Fanfiction site. Check out the news section...about half the threads end up becoming circle jerks over abortion. :lol"
If anyone's looking to leave their comfort zone for a spell, I recommend another TK spinoff: http://trollkingdomradio.com/index.php Slow going lately...but when it rains, it pours.
Alternatives to WF? READ A FUCKING BOOK. Build a model kit! Watch a movie! GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY. Call a friend or loved one on the phone. Finger paint with catchup. Ram a cucumber up your ass. What did we do for fun before the internet?
Well, I wasn't ramming cucumbers up my ass, that's for sure. Maybe you should have saved that tidbit for the Blue Room.
